Like many of you, I am watching these recent episodes as one who watches a train wreck. The show has been so bad since the end of S5 and all though E6 and 7 that I'm left wondering how a typical 'cop show' went from very smart and emotionally impacting to the drivel that is has become.

I want to remind you all of this scene:
http://youtu.be/cjpsp36svcA?t=1m52s
The music, the emotion, the sadness. The soft tones that make us feel the pain that Patrick feels. The atmosphere that brings us into the Mentalist and makes us forget about how outrageous and unrealistic Patrick is and makes us pine for his soul, so broken, so tormented, that it torments us.

I used to love this show for these reasons. Red John arc and Patrick's pain was what made it different from all the other police procedurals we have on TV. It had a dark side and was very sad for the most part.

Now, it couldn't be more cliched or boring or bankrupt than any of the standard CSI or Criminal Minds shows you see these days.

I believe I will try to block out seasons 6 and 7 if and when I decide to watch the Mentalist again. I want to say it ended with Tim in season 3, but there were so many good episodes in 4 and 5 that I don't want it to be that way. Such a shame about how they resolved it... such a shame...

I'd like to thank everybody who took part in sharing their vote in regards to the way Bruno Heller handled the end of Red John. We cracked about 60 votes which was way more than what I initially thought we'd get. Between Molly's survey and my poll I can definitively say we have roughly around 100 people (active on this website) who are still upset with how Red John's demise was done. Bruno Heller should be ashamed of what he's done. He created such an engaging show with an unprecedented level of quality and turned it into a cheese-fest like soap opera. This is unnacceptable. How many times do creators and actors from various television shows come out and tell the fans (all of them) how much they appreciate their support and say that. IT IS BECAUSE OF US AND PEOPLE LIKE US WHO ALLOWED THE MENTALIST TO GO ON FOR OVER 6 SEASONS. I HOPE THAT BRUNO HELLER HAS A MISERABLE CAREER AND NEVER PRODUCES A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT EVER AGAIN. I hope the last few episodes are Red John related. But unfortunately, it'll probably be more cases, Lazarus will be like a killer from the god-awful: The Following (generic guy trying to follow in the footsteps of a killer {in this case Red John}; rokkie amateur) and jisbon wedding. I hope I'm wrong because no matter how much harm has been done, the last 4 episodes could still fix a lot. Nonetheless, you are all true heroes and the best of fans: the dedicated and educated kind. Never will a show ever in the history and future of time ever have a fan-base as strong as the original Mentalist's fan base. Once again, thank you all for your votes and no matter how it all ends, it was a good journey for about two-thirds of it.

I don't have a full blown theory, but a few observations:
Obviously the color red is quite prominent in some key scenes all through s7. Such as the key females in the episodes wearing the color red.
The color red also appears prominently in a scene with objects when heller is dealing with misdirection from Jane.
Also the return of Janes cup I think has more to do with a connection to the RJ case than we think, how did Lisbon get it back, weren't all the members of the CBI escorted off premises at the same time? If so why/how could she return to retrieve it?

Theory
From the RJ revel episode at the very end, the last shot there is a pull away, zoom out of the play ground and a playset with a picnic table, a guy sitting there with his back to the camera, jeans and baseball hat and maybe sunglasses just sitting there. Why? Why was he in the middle of the screen, who was he watching? Didn't appear to have any connection to kids or anything else. My theory? I think that was either RJ or someone watching for him.
I think BP is RJ and Lisbon (knowingly) is a long con to draw RH out but Jane fell in love and is having second thoughts thus his move to with draw Lisbon from danger. An attempt on her life will be made a the end and Jane wil
Be there with Grigsby( who have been secretly investigating RH and the BA) for the wrapup.

Re: "the whites of his eyes"
Notice the over use of the color red in the family garage, yes red is popular with Italian cars and in high end tools and garages, but it is an aggressive color to use in abundance on screen. The chairs, boxes and other large items when introducing us to the ultimate bad guys who were behind the hands on killer.
This leads to the wrap up at the end of the episode. Abbotts speech went along way to point of the switcheroo to the 'bad guy' and how they were fooled. Abbott took joy in revealing how HE fooled them. I can't dictate verbatim, but it was too the effect "that sometimes you see what you want to see no matter how hard you look" whatever the wording it felt like a direct message to the RJ fans looking for a storyline return. That wrap up seemed out of place not only for Abbott but also in the show. I don't know if heller is playing with us or foreshadowing a great wrap up, honestly I think he is capable of either one.

I really want a RJ return, I thought it was an amazing story line, but I often wonder if heller is just telling us to let it go, I hope not.

I saw a few episodes older , wow , that had suspense , adrenaline , that sense of knowing what would happen next . Instead the latest episodes are ridiculous and boring . After "little yellow house " ( one of the worst episodes of the entire series ) I decided to abandon forever The mentalist . The real RJ is Bruno Heller , he killed the series , and the circle of fans .

Hi all,

I watched the last episode again (i didn't watch any other episode since that one) and I have spotted something and I am now 100% convinced that McAllister is not RJ. Once McAllister is dead, Jane points slightly the gun towards himself about to shoot himself and then we can see that something goes through his mind, something like a "oh no-moment", something that could sound like "Oh no.. -That- happened.. He is not / can't be Red John" and then he puts the gun down in McAllister's hand. It is all very subtle but I am sure I am seeing it.

What do you think? Am i going crazy? Still one year later?

I want to take the Red John finale on my hands. So my Red John is Bret Partridge. How? Bret Partridge fake his death, on the morgue on his shoulder we have seen that cut. What is the logic on doing that cut? If someone want to cover that Partridge was in Black A than when they doing that cut is evident that they cover something(the 3 dots). Is no logic on doing that cut just if Partridge was not in Black Association and he won't have the tatoo. But we know that Partridge have a tatoo, sooo that budy is not Partridge and the shoulder was cut because THERE IS NO TATOO. If there was a tatoo no need to do that cut, because when you do the cut is clearly you hide this dots. So that budy have not tatoo on shoulder and is not Partridge. I like to think that Partridge Is Red John and he win the duel with Patrick Jane making him to think that RJ is dead(Thomas MC.A.).
