Who is Red John?

Theories of BOBKIRKLANDISALIVE (20)

Making a case for Bob Kirkland.

Introduction:

Note
: Dear mister Jane, I don't like to be slandered
in the media, especially by a dirty money-grubbing fraud. If you were a real
psychic, instead of a dishonest little worm, you wouldn't need to open the door
to see what I've done to your lovely wife and child.

Kirkland: Sorry Mister Jane.

Jane
: Do I know you?

Kirkland
: No. But I know you.

**After Jane is ‘injured’ in the vehicle, once Lorelei runs:**

Kirkland
: Agent Kirkland, Homeland
Security. I need rescue south of Orr lake, forest road 42 north 12.

Jane
: Who is that guy? (asking
Lisbon)

Jane
: You don't know. You just guess.
And you didn't tell your new best friend Kirkland either.

Lisbon: I don't have any evidence, if I
did I would put you in cuff myself.

Jane
: No you wouldn't.

Lisbon
: Try me.

J
Jane
: Hahaha...

Lisbon: What's so funny?

Jane
: Nothing. Sorry. All of it's
worth it. She told me Red John and I are very much alike. That it's a wonder we
weren't best friends from the moment we shook hands.

Lisbon: You've met Red John?

Jane
: Yes. He's someone I know.

Do we
honestly believe Lorelei made a ‘mistake’ by saying this? I think RJ/Bob had
told her some while back that the time had come for him to start interacting
with Patrick, and that he was going to be stepping out of the shadows (where as
we know, he has in fact been since the day Jane started at the CBI – see ‘Red
Dawn’) and ‘making direct contact’. She had no idea when or where this would
have taken place, and presumed it had already happened.

(There
are quite a few ways around this ‘loop hole’ – lots of speculation of course.)

1.      The Final Case for Bob Kirkland:

Bob was
there from the start. Jane started at the CBI and Bob was pulling the strings. (Red
Dawn – flashback episode) Alexa calls Minnelli asking him to give her feedback
on the RJ case, as well as what Patrick does. Minnelli asks ‘what’s in it for
me’? And she says, ‘its good to have a friend in the FBI’. (For the record: who
else has spoken of having a ‘good friend’ in the FBI....RJ of course) Alexa
then tells Bob Kirkland who is sitting in the limo that it has been done.

We have him saying ‘your mind is clear’ just before asking
Lennon if he recognizes him. Trigger sentence for some or other hypnotic state.
It was RJ testing as to whether previously altered states of consciousness
(hypnosis) were STILL effective. (In other words, was Lennon still ‘conditioned’
to NOT recognise RJ on hearing a certain trigger word or sentence i.e. ‘your
mind is clear’. The other men he was torturing were ALSO in fact disciples or
connected to him, and possibly also conditioned/hypnotized. (Stiles might have
assisted Bob with his mental powers back in the day)

We have the cabin. Smells of pine and earth.

We have the convenient ‘twin’ which IMHO was the story RJ
(Bob) constructed to give Jane a clue about how he would be escaping ‘whenever’
/ IF ever he was eventually caught.

We have Jane reading ‘A tale of 2 Cities’ in season 5 – a
prisoner swap is part of the storyline.

Bob was present at Lore lei’s ‘presumed to be STAGED’ death
scene, and would have done what is required.

He is the one Bertram called, once the meet was arranged.

He is also the only suspect on the list if 7 who was off the
GPS tracking when Partridge was killed – if I recall correctly?

His voice – check.

Physical description – check.

Power (the senior amongst the rest of the TT’s and suspects)
– most definitely. Homeland security takes precedence to ALL else within the
confines of law enforcement and state departments. It also provides the
broadest capabilities in terms of surveillance, access to information,
specialized equipment and more. Whilst working there – he could actually do
whatever the hell he wanted, from changing people’s social security numbers, to
making people disappear, to creating new people if he so wished. THAT is the
type of capability RJ needed to pull of his reign of terror and control the TT
group.

Logically – Homeland security rule the roost and are given
more powers and legal leeway by the very nature of their work, than any other
department or law enforcement division.

Bob get’s Minelli to step down, because he didn’t feel
Minnelli had enough control over Jane.

His actions in general, throughout his appearances: classic
sociopath – most perfectly exhibited during the murder of Jason Lennon.

So where has his twin Michael been? Probably locked in that
cabin, kept drunk/drugged and semi comatose by Bob until he was needed for
Bob’s ‘great escape’ one day.  (Prisoner
swop)

I still believe Jane knew Kirkland was RJ way back,

I also believe Kirkland’s comment to Jane about ‘seeing this
thing through’ or whatever it was he said when arrested; was a challenge to
Jane.

So why did Bob/RJ abduct Jane?
Simple: he needed to be arrested in order for his ‘disappearance’ plan to work.

Kirkland is the only suspect we have seen sitting in a
limousine. Relevant yes; when that is where Wainwright was ‘posed’ to appear to
be RJ for Jane’s benefit.

Bob drinks a ‘bloody Mary’ as he works on piecing together
Jane’s notice board.

In series 5 episode 18 or 19, after Kirkland had pieced
together Jane’s ‘notice board’ he stands over the completed board which is on
the floor – his shadow over the ‘RJ’ board is symbolic – look at the stills pic
for this shot - scary.

The way he patted Jane on the left shoulder outside Lennon’s
hospital room – same way RJ did when he said, ‘Roll tide’.

What other suspect have we seen torturing people and
committing cold blooded murder without an increase in heart rate, without
pupils dilating, without even blinking. Hell, Bob could have been preparing lunch
for all the ‘emotion’ he showed. That’s true RJ style I reckon.

The finger cutting  -
a RJ trademark isn’t it?

Red Dawn = 100th episode = the major flashback
episode, directed by Chris Long (who directs the most important Red John episodes) and
this is where we see Bob Kirkland: his power, his friends, his influence, his
limousine and his face for the 1st time.

Also interesting that Alexa
ALSO tells Minelli that Jane has been in a psychiatric institution. Any guesses
as to who told her that – correct, Bob Kirkland, the man sitting with her in
the limo. Why on earth would ANYONE other than Red John, at this stage of Jane’s
life (just released from the institution, just starting at the CBI) have been
following all Jane’s movements since the murders?  Only Red John would care about this, and know
this – at this stage.

Patrick didn’t tell anyone about what Kirkland said to him
about a twin. Why? Because Jane knows what Bob is planning in terms of swopping
with his brother and Jane wants to kill RJ – without anyone knowing. ‘Red John
is mine’. He doesn’t want arrests and court cases – the aim is to kill a man who is either sitting in jail, or is already 'dead'.

Red John/Bob is cleaning up, because since season 5, when he makes 'face to face contact' with Jane for the 1st time, he has
been planning his ‘escape’ – by murdering all who know him and worked intimately
with him and then finally disappearing (because technically – he is already dead/in jail). As
Timothy Carter said, ‘RJ wants to retire’.

Bob set up the PI, knowing what Jane would do (but Jane also
knew what Bob was doing) – gather suspects together. Jane KNEW that RJ would
act when they got together in one room – he knew Kirkland would appear, but he
didn’t count on the bomb.

I’m still hoping for a Bob and Jane scene, in the park. Jane
kills him, buries the body and no-one is the wiser because Bob’s already dead.

Then Red John TRULY is his (Jane’s)

I’m on team Kirkland. Kevin Corrigan would scare the bone
marrow out of me as Red John. (I think Reed Diamond would be pretty damn scary
as well, when he pulls off that cold look – but just a little too ‘main stream ’
to really freak me out in the way Corrigan would)

***I know Partridge is the most popular, but as we now know
RJ is pretty much the string puller and power broker within TT – logic says it
would have to be someone with some SERIOUS punch within the fields of law
enforcement and government.  No genuine
sociopath is going to be happy stuck in a forensics job (even if in
hiding/undercover, as it goes against their natural drives)-no power, no
massaging of the ego, no minions to walk all over, too many rules and
regulations to follow, no real freedom to act as a sociopath would. No, the
TRUE sociopath wants to make his own rules, flaunt the power he has, abuse all
that is rigid, and report to no-one. Homeland Security offers all that – and more***

Take away all the bells, whistles, sub plots, red herrings,
mental tricks, false clues and irksome hints that have littered the storyline in
Season 6 thus far and what do you get?

Red John and Patrick Jane are entering the ‘end game’ phase
of a duel; a game; a challenge that started way back.

Both of these characters have been plotting, scheming,
outwitting, outlasting and outthinking each other in a back and forth manner for
years.

Almost like a version of ‘Mental
Survivor’.

This should make it clear that Season 6 is nothing more than
a culmination of the mental game of dexterity between the 2 is coming to its
end.  With two such ‘brilliant’ minds in
play, I’m almost certain this ‘end game plotting and planning by BOTH’ started
the minute Patrick Jane refused ‘Red John’s’ friendship. Not suddenly in last
season’s finale.

They both have different desired outcomes of course to the ‘end
game’ – but to think that both of them have suddenly been spurred into action
to rush along these events, is not giving either ones intellect enough credit.

Red John leaving a clue about a tattoo to reveal his
identity? Honestly? – Not a chance, part of his long term planning nothing
more.

Patrick Jane believing the tattoo clue and running with it?
Honestly? – Not a chance, it’s Jane ‘returning serve’ to Red John.

This tennis game started in Season 5 (in earnest), which is
when I believe Patrick Jane identified Red John. He obviously had to knit a web
of intrigue and lies (lists and handshakes and utterly ridiculous assumptions)
in order to draw Red John out in a manner of HIS (Jane’s choosing).  I have always thought that he would get red
John to come to him, in the same way Red John came to him way back – through insulting
him, belittling him or making him seem inferior in the media. See next episode
when Jane (IMO) reveals the name Reed Smith as Red John, in order to piss red
John off seriously. Then Red John will come out to play.

Even though Red John has been meticulously planning and
plotting his own ‘end game’ – which was supposed to be the glorious death of
all with a bomb, and a clean getaway for him.

The need to show himself as the
TRUE Red John (to Patrick) will overcome all his ‘best laid plans’.

Why wouldn’t he just get the hell out of Dodge?
Because what
do we REALLY know about Red John? Not the useless bits of info others have
given (Rosalind etc) which could or could NOT be reliable – but the information
Red John HIMSELF has given us.

1.
We know he hates to be belittled in the media,
and made to look like a regular fool. We also know he can’t ignore this – he is
driven to act by his very nature.

 2.
We know he hates imitation and people who ‘pretend’
to be him – once more he is driven to act by his very nature.

3.
We know he thinks he is smarter than Patrick. He
says as much in the Lorelei video. He calls Patrick ‘lucky’ and himself ‘clever’
for revealing the names. While we know he ‘likes’ Jane as an adversary (simply
because Jane is the 1st person he has ever met who provides a
challenge to him and who is of similar mental intelligence), BEATING Jane in
this game is still very important to him. But driving him here is not so much
the beating – it’s making sure Patrick KNOWS he has been beaten by a ‘superior
intelligence’.

So using that, one can almost SEE Patrick's plans, (that he
put into play the minute he knew who Red John was in Season 5) laid out in
front of us. The bomb might have thrown him off course, BUT it was a positive
sign that Red John has ‘bought into’ Patrick’s plan. He’s got him on a hook
now.

He has simply used what he DOES know as FACT about red John’s
psyche, to trap the man – and then deal with him – alone.
Patrick will not ‘share’ Red John with
anyone.

“Red John is MINE”

Bob Kirkland will be back as I theorized yesterday. Patrick
will announce Reed Smith as Red John to the media, infuriating Red John. While
Red John ‘knows’ he should use this as an ‘out’ and run – his ego won’t allow
it. The desperation to show Patrick how ‘wrong he is’ brings him into the open.  RJ is going to be one pissed off puppy; but
he’s also going to want to brag a little in between as to how cleverly he
fooled ‘Patrick’.

Sadly for RJ – PJ is counting on this.

Killing a man already dead, burying the body and telling
no-one who the real Red John is = PRICELESS. (And RJ’s worst nightmare)

***long post again – sorry – but if these characters were
mine, this is what both of them would be doing, because it’s a true reflection
of their psyches and intellect and to be honest, both characters deserve a little
more credit than what is currently being given them – silly clues, tattoo reveals
etc. We need to stop thinking like TV viewers and keystone cops, and start
thinking like Jane and Red John - it has been a marathon, not a sprint**

Has anyone thought about the end? We know Jane ends up in South America - on the run. But I'm very curious as to the Jane/red John showdown in this 'beautiful park' in the daylight.

Once Red John exposes himself to Jane (whilst law enforcement, the media etc all hunt down the 'false' Red John that Jane has 'given them) and they meet, and talk - this is what I'm looking forward to.

What would Red John's worst nightmare be as he is dying? Knowing that someone else (Bertram/Smith whoever) is going to get all the 'credit' for the Red John crimes? Knowing that someone he thinks of as INFERIOR is going to be prosecuted for his crimes of which he is in fact terribly proud.
Imagine being Red John and Jane tells you as you are dying, that the world will never know who you really are. And that the world will think that a 'dumb foot soldier from TT' is Red John. A person dumb enough to get caught and prosecuted.......
This will infuriate Red John beyond belief I reckon - and Jane once more, know this.

Which is why Red John will die knowing some 'idiot suspect selected by Patrick Jane ' is forever going to be known as Red John.
THIS is Jane's final play and it's a checkmate. Red John dies unknown, without credit  and with a public who think he's currently a fat cop (Reede Smith) sitting in a holding cell.

To fit into the above; this is why I believe the name Patrick will give to the press as Red John will be Reede Smith's - because he is an evil man, and deserves to spend his life behind bars (but for being a corrupt cop, TT man and murderer)

Patrick killing two birds with one stone. 1) Insulting Red John in his death - because he will die knowing Reede Smith is awaiting trial for Red John/TT crimes; which honestly? Could there be a greater insult to a sociopath like RJ?
2) He gets rid of one evil man from law enforcement - Reede.

If this theory is correct - we can all understand why a 'joke' like Reede Smith was a 'suspect'. Jane put him there because he knew Smith would be the greatest insult to the ego of RJ. RJ is dying and the last thing he sees is Jane, and the last think he thinks is burly, hurly Reede Smith (imperfection at it's best) will be known as Red John for the rest of time.

Patrick - 1
Red John and his ego - 0 (every sociopath has a weakness.....)

So how to wrap this neatly? Bob Kirkland is already 'dead'. Jane can kill him in cold blood, get rid of the body and keep quiet. Which is what I believe happens.
The CBI team will not know Kirkland is the 'real' Red John - no-one will, bar Patrick Jane.

Jane goes on the run, not for murdering 'Red John' but because he probably does something else reckless.

Jane get's away with murder. Which makes for an interesting episode after the 'Red John' one.

Long post again - sorry.

To add to my earlier theory, just to clarify.

Who says Bob Kirkland was 'really' hunting Red John? In the same way Jane mindfucks red John, Red John mindfucks Jane.
If Bob was really hunting Red John - the murder of Jason Lennon would not have taken place - simple as that. All Bob says to Lennon is "your MIND is clear - (classic hypnotism) - and then "have you seen me before". Lennon's memory has been 'washed' and then he is killed.
Still not sure which 'Bob's' we saw were Michael, and which were Bob - but guaranteed something is going to evolve from this.

Bob (Red John) knew Patrick Jane has been getting closer and closer from the minute Jane met Lorelei Martins. He needed to provide himself with some 'cover' and a legitimate excuse to find out just how close Jane was getting. What better way than to 'be hunting for Red John himself, due to a brother that been led astray - yeah right - lead astray by Bob more likely' and what better way to 'disguise' this?

Bob's big mindfuck of Jane: 'giving him the brother story' (which probably has some truth in it somewhere, but involving the 2 twins together: stronger twin saving the weaker - reading each other's minds - fighting the evil father etc) and hoping Jane believed it.
Kirkland has been playing TT and Jane in the same way Jane plays Red John: and in the process spinning a wonderful web in which he can escape (death to Michael) and hopefully disappear.
The failed bomb put an end to that.....

Kevin Corrigan would be a perfect red John. And boy, he would pull of a final showdown with Jane something special.

(Really hoping it's him - simply for the Corrigan performance)

Sorry for the long post. But I believe this is how it's going to go down.

Patrick Jane is going to play the final game in the press conference in 'The Great Red Dragon'. The spoilers state that he and Lisbon will reveal the name of 'Red John'. Lisbon will believe this name is true.

Patrick is however setting up the final showdown, making sure the media, ALL law enforcement and his own team are sent on a chase after Betram or Smith (whichever one he reveals as his 'false' Red John in the press conference). This allows Jane the space, time and opportunity to draw the real Red John into the open: ending in Red John's death in a park - eventually.

Whilst lot's of excitement will be created as the police and media go beserk and hunt for 'Red John' (Bertram or Smith - whichever name Jane feeds them....), the real Red John will be drawn out in a desperate act to contact Jane - simply to tell him 'he has the wrong guy'. We know Jane has fooled Red John once (the drinking and breakdown), he can and WILL do it again by giving the false name 'very convincingly'. The real Red John, (even though he tried to kill Jane with the bomb...) won't be able to resist contacting Jane about some other 'person' getting credit for his work.
We know there is nothing Red John hates more. And if he is made to believe that Jane REALLY believes Bertram or Smith IS Red John - well, he will risk it all to show Jane otherwise.

By now, Red John has nothing to lose, neither does Jane. His attempt to kill Jane failed, and he's now planning his 'escape' into society and normality. The ONLY thing that will draw him out to Jane is when his ego won't allow him to accept that his friend/foe Jane is crediting someone else as Red John. And Jane: KNOWS THIS.

Jane knows Red John (the real one....) will only come out in those circumstances. His ego will take over and force him to reach out to Jane.

The scene with the final 5 suspects and the tattoo hocus pocus - for Jane it's been nothing more than an elaborate and convincing plan to 'give someone else credit for being Red John', making the real Red John believe this and thereby forcing his ego to expose himself, finally.

Enter Bob Kirkland once more. His hair has now been dyed (red probably) - ok, wild guessing here, but it sounds fitting.

Final showdown. Fight to the death.

It's getting to the point where almost anything in past episodes is now being seen as a 'clue'. Things people didn't notice before, have suddenly become massive clues.
Take the end of this clip for example. Mashburn and Jane walk away, and the camera zooms in on Mashburn's car. The lights and the bumper of the red sports car almost look like a 'Red John' type smiley face.

See how easy it is to make big things out of nothing?

Personally, I believe Bob Kirkland is still alive and his brother Michael was the one who was killed - sacrificed more likely by his stronger brother's alter ego: Red John (Bob Kirkland). Bob probably controlled his twin from the time they were young. The stronger twin usually has some degree of control over the weaker and if Michael 'worshiped' his brother (who happened to be Red John) he would happily die for him.

Some form of mind control/hypnosis will play an essential role in whoever is exposed as red John. (even if not Kirkland)

It's been fun guessing all these years. Going to be sad on some level when it's all over.
