I've been pondering the "He is mar" from season 1 episode 11. I see theories that it could be "He is married" or that the r is really an n, and that it would have said "He is many", but there are other possibilities as well. And "married" isn't really a clue to anything. I also don't think Red John is a group. Serial killers don't share credit.
I think "mar" could have been intended as "marred" or "marked", meaning the victim had time to inflict a visible injury of some sort. It may not be an r or an n at all, looking at the way the letter was formed (as the victim was dying), it could have been intended as c, d, e, f, g, i, l, m, o, p, q, or t. Going through a dictionary led me to eliminate some of these letters (other than as proper names), which left me with the above, marred and marked, plus martyr, maimed, maniac, and mad. Can any of the seven suspects on Janes list (confirmed by Heller) be eliminated or singled out as more likely under this theory?
Assuming it was marred or marked, we haven't seen McAllister since season 1, and we didn't meet Smith until season 5, which would have given him time to get plastic surgery. On the other side, Kirkland asked "Do you recognize me?" which could be a suggestion that he HAS had plastic surgery. These 3 can't be eliminated based on this assumption. Can Bertram, Partridge, Ardiles, or Haffner be eliminated?
