Who is Red John?

Theories of travelingturkey (1)

I have watched this show in it's entirety over and over and over again. Fine, ok, I'm obsessed. Who the heck is Red John? And do the producers and writers know that they are driving us nuts? Probably. Here is my analysis of Red John.

1. For everyone guessing it's Patrick Jane, are you kidding? Give me a break - that would make the worst show ever. This show is about Patrick Jane's struggle for redemption. The irony that even though he would never kill his family, he feels his actions have killed them. His endless pursuit to do good and redeem himself from his past sins. Can you imagine getting to the end of the show and finding that Patrick Jane is Red John? Most depressing show ever. I mean, really.

2. "He is mar" - I believe was an unfinished "He is many". This is before we know that Red John has disciples, literally, everywhere. Foreshadowing for the neverending list of disciples and followers.

3. Throughout the show we have these Visualize cult members who pop in and out. I believe that this is also foreshadowing for the type of person Red John is. In Episode 5.13 "Red Barn" We learn some pretty creepy things about Visualize's first years and the fact that there were some unfortunate members. I believe that this means that Red John is a Visualize member gone rogue. He has the believes of Visualize, the powers of manipulation and hypnotization, and yet he has his own agenda.

4. I don't think it is Bret Stiles. I mean, hey.. he could be right? But I think it's too easy. Bret's been helping Patrick, with the escape of Lorelai, with Kristina Frye's address, I think that he has channels to get this information because of the Visualize connections. In Episode 2.23 Red Sky in the Morning, Bret Stiles says "I know more than you or Red John could ever know". I believe he said this because he was once Red John's "master" in Visualize, before he went rogue.

5. Always remember the physical description that we get from Rosaline Harker when thinking about who Red John is. He is just under six feet, has short straight hair, is neither soft, nor overly muscular, and loved to hear her play the piano, particularly Bach. She says that Red John has strong, rough hands. This rules out suspects like Gale Bertram, JJ LaRoche, any WOMEN (good grief guys.. Van Pelt? come on....).

6. I think that having Red John be the forensics investigator would bring the show full circle. He's been around the entire time, and he's always present at every "Red John impersonator" crime scene. He fits the physical description, and Jane abhors him, more than other characters on the show. Plus he's super creepy. Who doesn't want a creepy character for this role?

That's my long winded theory. And good gosh darnit I want to know what happened to Kristina Frye. I also want to know who Timothy Carter was and what the heck he had to do with anything.

Oh, and I also think Van Pelt is either hypnotized or a secret member of visualize. She will play some kind of role in all of this but against her better judgement. But that's just a guess ;)
