LATEST THEORIES

Red John is NOT Brett Partridge!  It's too obvious.  The writers have given themselves a lot of room to define who Red John is and they can choose anyone from Jane's list of suspects, anyone on the CBI team, and they can choose someone new.

If the what the writers are trying to do is create a surprising and enjoyable ending to the series, they won't choose Brett Partridge, because he is probably the most obvious "bad guy" available.  He's a misdirect (probably an homage to Psych's Mary Lightly, who was also creepy but innocent).  That's why it's unlikely that the writers will choose him when they decide who to make Red John.

The identity of Red John will probably depend on how "artististic" the writers of the show think they are.  If they fancy themselves Hitchcocks, then Red John will be either Patrick Jane, Lisbon, Van Pelt, Rigsby or Cho, just because they would want to surprise and shock the audience.

If they suck at their job they'll choose one of Jane's suspects from his list.  One thing that would be essential to the finale would be Jane's sense of shock at who Red John turns out to be, and you can't have that if he turns out to be on Jane's list.  So, assuming that Red John isn't on Jane's list, then that leaves the CBI team, a lot of females (who he said was unlikely, which makes it dramatically more likely for the writers of the show to choose), and lastly someone we haven't met yet.

So my proposal is that Red John is either a CBI team member (
Patrick Jane, Lisbon, Van Pelt, Rigsby or Cho), another female on the show (like the CBI press director), or a completely new person.

This is not a theory and im not accusing anyone here.
This is for the admin(s) of the site.
There are certain glitches in the site. for eg Bob Kirkland has been added very recently to the list of suspects. But there have been a lot of theories in which he was accused before he was officialy put on the list here. So these theories are now null and void as they have not been counted as theories against him. Work on this please. This is probably also true for other suspects.

Yes, that's right. Brett Partridge is Red John.

He just playing a dumb guy, because he has to be hide the real personality from Jane. This is just a trick, because in real, he is a criminal mastermind. I think, every fan has a feeling that he is Red John.

My opinion is, Patrick has a great sense that Brett Partridge is Red John, but he has to be careful, lest spotting by Red John., because he kill him immediately if realize in danger.

His character fits perfectly:

- he is an expert (has a connection law enforcement)
- he knows how could kill by undetected
- totally macabre (cold, psychopath man)
- just under 6 feet tall, not muscular but not soft either
- has a gentle, odd voice
- he is appears in prior episodes (and we will see him at this season finale!)

A lot of people will be disappointed when the show ends, because he was Red John from the beggining.

So again, Brett Partridge is Red John. Other suspects just a red herrings to confuse us.

I have watched this show in it's entirety over and over and over again. Fine, ok, I'm obsessed. Who the heck is Red John? And do the producers and writers know that they are driving us nuts? Probably. Here is my analysis of Red John.

1. For everyone guessing it's Patrick Jane, are you kidding? Give me a break - that would make the worst show ever. This show is about Patrick Jane's struggle for redemption. The irony that even though he would never kill his family, he feels his actions have killed them. His endless pursuit to do good and redeem himself from his past sins. Can you imagine getting to the end of the show and finding that Patrick Jane is Red John? Most depressing show ever. I mean, really.

2. "He is mar" - I believe was an unfinished "He is many". This is before we know that Red John has disciples, literally, everywhere. Foreshadowing for the neverending list of disciples and followers.

3. Throughout the show we have these Visualize cult members who pop in and out. I believe that this is also foreshadowing for the type of person Red John is. In Episode 5.13 "Red Barn" We learn some pretty creepy things about Visualize's first years and the fact that there were some unfortunate members. I believe that this means that Red John is a Visualize member gone rogue. He has the believes of Visualize, the powers of manipulation and hypnotization, and yet he has his own agenda.

4. I don't think it is Bret Stiles. I mean, hey.. he could be right? But I think it's too easy. Bret's been helping Patrick, with the escape of Lorelai, with Kristina Frye's address, I think that he has channels to get this information because of the Visualize connections. In Episode 2.23 Red Sky in the Morning, Bret Stiles says "I know more than you or Red John could ever know". I believe he said this because he was once Red John's "master" in Visualize, before he went rogue.

5. Always remember the physical description that we get from Rosaline Harker when thinking about who Red John is. He is just under six feet, has short straight hair, is neither soft, nor overly muscular, and loved to hear her play the piano, particularly Bach. She says that Red John has strong, rough hands. This rules out suspects like Gale Bertram, JJ LaRoche, any WOMEN (good grief guys.. Van Pelt? come on....).

6. I think that having Red John be the forensics investigator would bring the show full circle. He's been around the entire time, and he's always present at every "Red John impersonator" crime scene. He fits the physical description, and Jane abhors him, more than other characters on the show. Plus he's super creepy. Who doesn't want a creepy character for this role?

That's my long winded theory. And good gosh darnit I want to know what happened to Kristina Frye. I also want to know who Timothy Carter was and what the heck he had to do with anything.

Oh, and I also think Van Pelt is either hypnotized or a secret member of visualize. She will play some kind of role in all of this but against her better judgement. But that's just a guess ;)

I am not really sure...

What if Lorelei has never met the real Red John? What if she has just met another one of his minions?  We really don't know for sure.

Why are people adding people in as suspects that don't matter? i.e. Grace's dad (what does he have to do with ANYTHING), Lisbon's youngest brother...

Are people so desperate for a solution that they will include characters that have NEVER been on the show? Lisbon's youngest brother has never even been mentioned by name...come on people...really?

I love the idea of speculation but stick to stuff that makes a modicum of sense...

(This is NOT a theory of RJ)

In S05E05 Red Dawn, when Hannigan moved to another unit, there was a quick scene with the profile of GVP. I tried getting the text out of her bio, so here's what I have (some words are unknown, referred to as ???? because the text was so small to read):

"Van Pelt is from a small farming town in Iowa. She tends to be overly sensitive at times, but is very intelligent. Van Pelt works with Det. Chillings most of the time, but occasionally works with the FBI or SFPD. She is the gold standard of the team, having started her job in the year 2000. Grace's cousin is supposedly a psychic, causing her to sometimes argue about matters of faith. In the case of 788728-009, the suspect made a remark about Van Pelt's character, stating "...you're deeply depressed and emotionally shut down...because of a trauma in your past that you've never spoken with anyone...ever...even yourself..." which Van Pelt's facial expression seems to confirm. In the case 459959-001 she is ???? for ???? due to a killer who is killing red haired people, leading her to being in an uncomfortable situation"

- The psychic was her cousin Yolanda
- The trauma referred to is probably Van Pelt's sister which she lied about to Rigsby (S02E10 Throwing Fire)
- The serial killer part is very interesting
