LATEST THEORIES

First of all: I'm not saying that Lorelei is Red John.

I wrote this theory just to ask you a question:
ARE WE SURE LORELEI IS DEAD?

I know what you could be thinking, "of course she's dead, we saw her! if not, who was her? A secret twin sister?"
I must say, generally I don't like when a fiction "resurrects" a character through some sort of trick; it was pretty corny if the trick is a twin popped out of thin air.
But The Mentalist could just about manage it: Dana Martins admitted that she had sold Miranda, the youngest daughter, but we know that Miranda was killed and, moreover, she wasn't Lorelei's twin. But maybe that wasn't an isolated case. Maybe Lorelei also had a twin sister who has met the same fate. I repeat, it's a bit 'corny, but who knows.

I don't know what will be the trick, if it was a twin or a double or whatever. But I have a strong feeling that Lorelei is still alive and that was John's trick! He has not recorded the video before killing Lorelei; he recorded it after her supposed death, and after being able to spy on Patrick's investigation.
Why I think she's alive? I'll show you right now!
Look at Lorelei's dead body (5x16), then look at her video message from Red John to Patrick (5x22).
Did you notice? I found two differences:
1) in the video Lorelei was beaten by John and she has a bruised eye. "Two weeks later" her corpse's face is clean.
2) this is crucial: in the video her left arm is bandaged. Instead at the crime scene "Her" body's arm is not. And, by the way, there wasn't a mosquito bite under the bandage, there was a bullet wound. We could think it's a blooper, but if we look back, it would seem a deliberate choice by the authors:

1 - Lorelei is wound in the arm by an agent (5x16, min. 24:26);

2 - Lorelei tortures Jason Lennon and her arm is bandaged (5x16, min. 33:28)

3 - Lorelei is beaten by John and she reads the message; the arm is still bandaged (5x22, min. 39:46)

4 - "two weeks later" it's found the dead body of "Lorelei" with no bruises and no wound in the arm (5x16, min. 41:32)

I think that was a detail to make us realize that it wasn't the real Lorelei; Lorelei is not Wolverine and she can't recover from a bullet wound in two weeks. The real Lorelei is still alive.
And the authors could have given us another clue. Go to the min. 41:17 of the episode 5x16 and freeze it:
Did you see it? - How I love it keeping you on your toes, hahaha! - a poster about a freak ("four legged woman") has been placed at the crime scene. But why is it there? Because on that poster it also stands out another word: "ALIVE"!

If so, then Lorelei is being held captive by John and the video was shot after her supposed death. Meanwhile, John was able to spy on Patrick's list to find out the names and to narrow it to the seven suspects. Obviously, the first name that comes to mind is Kirkland. It could be!
I persist to believe that Kirkland is a Red John's rival, but who knows, maybe I'm wrong!

But there is another possibility: When Lorelei's body was found, Lisbon knocked on Patrick's door. He realizes what has happened and he was visibly upset. That's why, when he left the room, he left the lock inside, open: anybody could have entered the room.

For all of you f'ng toolbags who are too stupid or stubborn to do some research before posting, please read this:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: After all that craftiness on Patrick Jane’s part, Red John is still a step ahead of him. So can we really trust that the list is accurate if Red John is so willing to confirm it?
Bruno Heller: Yes, we can trust that list. As much as much as Red John has been one step ahead, Lorelei Martins’ intervention changed the game. So as much as Red John is trying to play from a position of strength in reality Jane has gotten a lot closer. This last episode of the season really sets us up for next season: The hunt is on, no messing about.

Once again, you’re making moves that make me wonder if Patrick Jane is Red John — after all, how else could he know that memory from inside his head? But by saying Red John is definitely on the list, can we rule out the theory held by some fans that Jane is actually Red John?
Heller: I would say that definitively: Jane is not Red John.

SO ACCORDING TO THE SHOWS CREATOR:  RED JOHN IS ON THE LIST OF 7 and JANE IS NOT RED JOHN.

Please take note of the 2 most important parts: First, although Heller doesnt say the words "definitely on the list" by not refuting the statement, he is saying that Red John is on the list of 7.  Second, Jane is not Red John.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pick one of the seven people on this list when posting or provide a credible theory as to why we should believe that Heller is lying to his fan base if you are foolish enough to choose someone who is not on the list.

Theory #3525 • By RJ36
Show this theory

So maybe it's Jane's father. Remember when Jane had flashbacks and it was revealed he worked as a carny? Well Jane's wife was from the carny too and so they ran away together and his father was maybe disappointed at him for letting him down on the job. So he decided to watch over his every move since then... Just saying

Heler said: PJ is not RJ. RJ is one of the list. Bertram and Kirkland are connected to RJ somehow, but neither of them are RJ. In one ep, Krikland asked Lennon if he remembers him, and then he kills him. This is too obvious and too simple, he cant be RJ. RJ would probably sent someone to kill Lennon (like Kirkland). I mean, kill a man in a hospital ? Isn't it a little too risky for RJ to do it himself ?
Krikland and Bertram had a little odd conversation, so we can tell for sure that both of them are connected to RJ. Now, i think B. Heller wouldn't show us the "puppeting" of RJ. If Bertram really is RJ, B. Heller wouldn't let us suspect him so easy (The conversation with Kirkland, etc).

Reede Smith and Thomas McAllister - deep down, we all know it's not them. : )

Ray Haffner: A member of Visualize. RJ is a really smart man. I don't think he would fall for that sh*t Visualize (new religion and stuff). But, he could use Visualize as a mask, hiding place etc. Even so, he is not a serial killer model. Also, he is too tall :D

Brett Stilles is just too old. But, he is a real mistery in the whole series. Always he shows up in an episode, something strange happens.

Brett Partridge is just the guy for a cold blooded serial killer. He has that mysterious something in himself. I think he's the one. But it definitely has something to do with Brett Stilles.

Okay, so first I thought PJ was still in the institution and the whole series spun out of his memory
as a way for him to deal w/ the murder of his family. Hence, the "mental-ist" Maybe RJ even worked there.
Now I think it might be too derivative. Also pretty sure that RJ isn't Jane. Nor Teresa. Her religious values are too real and established as a foil for PJ. Personally, I really like Teresa and yes, I'd like
to see PJ fall in love again, but I don't see him w/Teresa. He loves her like family, not romantically.(Sorry!) He was half in love w/ Lorelei, which makes more sense to me. interesting to see LM's role next season. she will definitely help PJ. I also think Kirkland will team up w/ PJ. My guess is he's a victim of RJ and suspects PJ. Makes his line
"I know who you are" make total sense. He will realize its not PJ and they'll work together. From the list, only BP makes sense to me. His persona could hide his psychopathy and the actor could reveal the crazy once he's been caught. i can see episodes of cat and mouse, questioning, mind games. PJ won't kill him (done it, didn't work) but someone else will...Teresa? Kirkland? Still, I think the list isn't genuine, so...I don't think we are limited to this suspect pool. I really love the idea someone floated that one of the
central women is the little girl PJ conned and I think Sean Barlow will play I role in the RJ
reveal. Finally, "he is man"...probably "he is many"...the cult, the brainwashing, the California setting...all feels a bit Manson family inspired (or maybe that's just me ). Love the site!

The fact that Patrick Jane could be Red John just seriously ruined my day. Mostly because it makes way too much sense. I would be incredibly disappointed if PJ was RJ, so this is a defense rather than an accusation

1) Dis-Associative Disorder people have no knowledge of their counterpart. If Jane had a second personality, there would certainly be times when he returned to himself in situations or places he could not remember. Red John would have no knowledge of being Jane, and, therefore, would not have the foresight to return to where Jane had been or change back into the three part suit (if he wore something else) before the Jane persona came around. The show would have made hints to that end.

2) Red John's accomplices are not that sophisticated. In season 1, Red John's Footsteps, both Rosalind Harker and Sheriff Hardy know Red John personally. If my first point was correct, than Red John would have no way of warning them that his other personality would be coming by to investigate. Realistically, Rosalind and Hardy would be very surprised to have Patrick Jane who is also Red John on their tails (the episode also gave the impression that Red John was watching Jane and Lisbon from a separate place). I can't remember the accomplices or situations from later seasons, but I think the concept applies to the the others too.

3) How could one person save himself? In the season 2 finale, when Jane is at the mercy of RJ imitators, he is saved by Red John personally. An argument could be made for another accomplice, but I'm pretty sure that was supposed to be RJ himself.

4) I don't think Jane had the time to commit several of those murders. Split personalities or not. Perhaps they were always accomplices, but really? More accomplices? Red John is a serial killer because he likes to kill, not delegate.

I'll have to go through the previous seasons again, but this is what I've come up with so far. If anyone can explain one of those points, that would be fantastic.
