Hey people!

I was thinking (like I have nothing else to do but somehow this mystery grabbed me badly)... We know that there's a hidden agenda or conspiracy (maybe a crime) involving almost every layer of the US security forces (Bob: Homeland Security, Reede (FBI), Gale (CBI), Sherrif (local law enforcement), Brett (CSI under CBI), Ray (now private detective). Only Stiles has no involvement in law enforcement but he / his cult somehow pulls the strings of some / many law enforcers within different categories (at least we have some examples of this).

Let's remember Bob Kirkland was trying to pull back Lisbon from chasing after Tommy Volker who is/was a considerably wealthy guy (I'd like to start another discussion whether Mashburn or Volker is richer but that would be another day:). And Bob wanted this kept off-the-record. Same Bob is seen with Bertram later on discussing whether they can trust Lisbon or not and if I remember correctly, the topic was Red John. As Bertram's response to Bob regarding whether to trust her or not was also not too sharp and he seemed to be unsure about it. After all they've been through under the same roof, Bertram should have known that she can't be wholly trusted when it comes to Jane-Red John related topics because she is closer to PJ than she is to Bertram. The two have shared the same field of work, overcome dangerous situations together, and apparently have some feelings for each other. Bertram is just a boss figure (most of the time friendly but still having a solid boss image). And Bertram is not stupid to be unaware of the fact that Lisbon would choose PJ if she is confronted with the fact that Bertram is actually an RJ accomplice. So, if that was the situation, Bertram's response for such a question from Bob would be a rock-solid NO.

This idea makes me think that these people are somehow in connection with RJ but not willingly. The reason why I'm writing this post is to get everyone's opinion on what really is going on in this triangle. Because I watched every episode only once and watching them again would take a long time which I don't have. But many of you might have a fresh memory or bits and pieces of information that would help us connect the dots on this (if there's any). It looks to me that these guys are not happy getting involved with RJ and they need every possible hand they could use in order to take him down without having themselves busted as well. I think that Bob didn't kill Lennon due to revenge but it was an assistance to RJ, and all the other guys on the same boat knows about it. So my guess is that they are not protecting RJ but they feel obliged. Of course it doesn't mean that these guys are saints because definitely, whatever it is they are signed up for, it requires deviation from their original course. So, what could that be? What could be so attractive to bring together FBI, CBI, Local PD and Homeland on a single secret agenda? What could be RJ's role in this?

Another point of view; should we accuse Haffner (a surveillance expert) of being RJ who has detected the others' collective wrongdoing and threatened them into doing what he desired otherwise they would be exposed? If that's the case, do these guys know that he is RJ (was it an open threat?) or the threat came under disguise, so they have no idea it was Haffner? Or the picture is actually bigger and these guys only represent their associations with an operative identity in this secret agenda but the actual players are at higher levels? Because these guys come together often and all need to report to their superiors (you can't just get lost for days on an unknown mission without the knowledge of your boss unless you're assigned). Hell, if it's going to reach out to the presidential level (like in Prison Break), I want to know.

Or should I give credit to posters who believe that RJ is actually a group of people running a secret agenda and covering it under the mask of a serial killer (if we assume that there's a secret reason behind each murder and nothing is as it seems)? If so, there must be a connection between all RJ murders. Plus, if that was the case, why hire a guy like Jane in the CBI? Looking for trouble when it would be the last thing you needed? I think we should pass this idea. However, if there was a single RJ all the time and he requested these guys to hire him, then we're experiencing a case where the serial killer wants to be caught (like many) but this guy just picked a specific person to do that. Nevertheless, I don't believe in the idea that the whole storyline is based on a psychotic super-clever killer who wants to play games with another bright guy because we've seen it millions of times on the screen and only the way it's processed differently is not good enough for me to buy it. There's absolutely something deeper but what? Let's just connect the dots fellas. Because to me, it's more intriguing what's really going on rather than who RJ is.

I don't think that Reede Smith is Red John. Reede Smith is too fat to be Red John. In my opinion he's Red Johns "Friend" in the FBI. I think he was the guy, who told Red John about Janes Plan in Episode 4x24 "The Crimson Hat" and he was very nervous, when Jane said he's very close. Remember that Smith asked Bertram how close Jane is.

We don't know what happens to Patrick's father
I have a theory: I think he's Bret Stiles (his past is doubtful), and Red John!
This is his father who taught him Mentalism!
My justification:
"In the mid-1980s, when Patrick Jane was 16, he worked in a carnival as a psychic boy wonder, with his father Alex who MC-d the sideshow. Patrick had what his father called "x-RAY eyes," his amazing skills of observation, deduction and induction. He had a rough existence with his father, the only adult in his life, whose treatment and use of him was tantamount to child abuse. When Patrick refused to scam a dying girl and her grandmother, his father threatened him and forced him to do it. Jane later said that he never went to a high school, presumably due to the nomadic carny life. "

Just a question...

Did anybody else notice the scene when Lisbon is in the hospital and the nurse comes in and asks for the patient's name, " carmen lee" ?

That couldn't have just been an accident right?

Red John as being the alter ego of our dear old Patrick seems to be the most plausable solution now. It's been the same game of chess between the "gold" and "black" part of the tiger in its "fearful symetry," at least if we believe in Kimbals interpretation of Blake's poem.

This is the most plausable solution for many reasons and we can name a few:

1. Red John is simply to perfect and infallible and knows even Jane even better than he knows himself. Jane feels thus dark presence and fears it.

2. We don't know much about Jane's previous life but its still enough to determin that he had an unhappy and disturbed life even before the demise if his family. IRS playsable to assume that Red John creates his cult demanding a sacrifice of loved ones as a means of emerging ones "true identity" - thus he also has a leverage over new disciples.

3. Furthermore, no one in the series has such power of manipulation and influence on people - especialy hypnosis. Dark twin is the only probable explanation for creating such elaborate network of manipulation and blackmail (with likely victims being powerhungry individuals as Berthram and Styles, or pure psychos as La Roache or Kirkland).

4. Besides PJ is the "unlikeliest suspect" especially as our attention is being diverted (in accordance with tradition of both magical tricks and crime dramas) to no less than 7 other suspects, who however are likely willing or unwilling accomplices.

There are numerous other references to this possibility like Styles "knowing much about Red John" (who was associated with the cult and might even "help" his rise to power by murdering the opposition). Besides, close circle of Red John followers is bound to know about the "Jane" persona and is probably dedicatet to protecting their master from himself even up to a point of willing sacrifice in order to preserve him. As for the handshaking part its either an elaborate decepcion or a symbolic act of acceptance of the "tiger duality" after the murder of his own family and full separation of his true identity.

Finally even if all this is revealed by the half of S06 its not necessary the end because Jane/John might continue to solve cases from an insane asylum thus taking the role similar to Hanuval Lector.
