LATEST THEORIES

Let's not forget what Jane taught us, Occam's Razor. The simplest solution is usually the correct one.

If first of all we assume that the list of 7 is correct, as Heller has confirmed this in his interviews. We can move on from there. We can go through the process of elimination by matching descriptions given by the Rosalind Harker, and the latest physical description provided by Sophie Miller.

Since we are given to understand Red John (Jay Roth) is middle aged, we can eliminate Bret Styiles.

Now, looking at Red John's build we can eliminate Reede Smith, as he his too obese to match the description.

I believe we can now safely say have successfully eliminated two of the seven suspects.

Now our next assumption is going to be to believe what Lennon told us during his die moments were true. We know that Lennon has met and seen Red John in person. But when Bob Kirkland asked Lennon “Do you recognize me?” Lennon replied no. Using this we can eliminate Bob Kirkland from a suspect as Red John.

Moving on to the more difficult suspects. Gale Bertram. This is a rather shaky and circumstantial evidence to use, but bare with me. We were told Red John has short straight hair. Whereas Bertram is bald. Using this, albeit unsatisfying, we can cross Bertram off from our list.

We have reduced our suspect list from seven to three: Brett Partridge, Ray Haffner, and Sheriff Thomas McAllistar.

On to our more dangerous conjecture, we have to believe Heller’s word, and the story up till now, and assume that Brett Partridge is dead. Please understand that this is no more believable to me as it is to you, since many of us are saying he could actually be alive since Partridge’s throat was not slit. And up till now we observed and believed that Red John murders his suspects by first slitting their throats and then carve their body afterwards.

Now our Red John suspect has been narrowed down to just two: Ray Haffner and Thomas McAllistar.

At the moment, either of these suspects could be Red John, and we have not been given enough facts or evidence to eliminate either one. At a time like this all we have is our intuition. Let’s go back to season one. Out of all seven suspects, the only suspects introduced to the audience were McAllistar, and Partridge. Partridge has always been the number one suspect in this site up until his “death”. Leaving us only McAllistar from season one. Of course, there was that creepy encounter between Van Pelt, and McAllistar. But aside from that, let’s ask ourselves why a famous actor (Xander Berkeley) was used to portray a lowly town sheriff in the very beginning of the show. I cannot think of an answer, except for Heller’s plan to reintroduce the sheriff again in season 6. This stands out slightly to me, and makes me believe McAllistar is the “more likely” candidate for Red John.

For a summary of what we have determined here. We have confidently eliminated Bret Stiles, Reede Smith, and Bob Kirkland by carefully using the evidence provided to us by Heller, and assumed it to be correct. Afterwards we removed Gale Bertram by looking at the physical description for Red John for which he did not qualify. And then we had to eliminate our most promising suspect, Brett Partridge, because we are given to believe that he is dead. Now lastly, although we could not eliminate either Haffner or McAllistar from our list. We used reasoning to determine the more likely suspect, which is Sheriff Thomas McAllistar.

Possibilities I chose to exclude:
Although it may look like there is some kind of alliance between McAllistar, Bertram, and Smith. I do not believe it to be greatly significant as of S6 Ep 2, because the bits of conversation that was provided was too circumstantial to make any speculation. The other theory which is highly regarded is Red John is more than one person because of references to the Great Red Dragon. References from other literature are really not my forte, and I chose to leave it out of the theory.

Thanks for the read, only a more episodes to go!

I first thought it was Ray Hafner but then I re-watched S6E2 and saw a a few things that made me think it was Reede Smith.

1) In lisbons dream he is holding the knife in his left hand.
2) In the scene with Sheriff Mccalister and Bertram in Bertrams office - when Jane leaves the room Smith says to Bertram something(I forgot what he said) but it sounded like he was talking with authority and Bertram answers to him.  Also Mccalister didnt say a word.
3) When Jane left the office he whistled (I know this is weak but thought maybe its a clue)

This isnt evidence but a thought - in the last episode of last season when the suspects are revealed and the pictures are placed ono the desk his is the one in the middle.   I think maybe the suspects surrounding him are the closest accomplices/disciples etc.  Partridge was at the right end.  Id be curious to see if Stiles(whose picture was at the left end) is not a major accomplice

I havent followed as carefully as others so maybe someone can help w evidence of my theory of Reede smith

I've decided, that it's finally time to get the truth out, to not be the only one suffering.

The Mentalist is my favorite ongoing tv show no doubt, but sadly I can't watch it and enjoy it as I could 2 years ago when I started watching it. I'm not saying that the show was better 2 years ago because it wasn't. I'm saying this because I've watched too many interviews with the cast and behind the scenes clip that I can't even watch the show as if it's real, because now it all just reminds me of that the show is just fiction, there are cameras in front of the actors and the actors do pickup lines, nothing is real. Nothing is ever getting exiciting for me anymore, even though I know that some scenes are supposed to be exiciting, but I still get reminded of that all they do is just pickup lines in front of cameras and nothing else. I watch like 13 tv shows and I can't enjoy any of them thinking of this, and I can't control it in any way. When lisbon was knocked out by Red John she wasn't unconscious, she was conscious, because they are acting. She was aware of the stuntman pretending to be RJ was painting the RJ mark on her face. When RJ called Jane moments after I clearly hear Simon bakers voice. Same thing in s06e02 at the recap, but more clearly. I could go on. I want to watch tv shows like I could 5 years ago, and knowing that this never is going to happen again hurts badly because for 7 years I've lived for tv shows. And now it has been taken away from me, for life. I miss the exiciting feeling to watch a exiciting scene, the goosbumps you get after something messed up happens. I remember watching the movie se7en a little more than 2 years ago and after the ending I was so shocked, best movie I've ever seen, and I'm glad I watched when I could.

As I mentioned, The Mentalist is my favorite tv show and I will never be able to watch these last episodes in peace. Eventually this sickness will haunt you also, just when you least expect it.

Hello,

I think there is more to it than meets the eye.........

The fact that RJ was watching Jane on TV tells me that he must either be a fan, or a friend, or a competitor (from carnie days), or even a family member......how else would he know that someone by the name of Patrick Jane appeared on TV and mentioned RJs name? he follows Jane's moves very closely....obviously

AND.....it is NOT easy to convince head honchos from CBI (Bertram), FBI (Smith), Local Police Dept.(Mccallister), and DHS (Kirkland) to be his follower/disciple.......there is definitely something more to it......what is their incentive to keep RJ's identity under covers?

If someone is "controlling" these guys on BEHALF of RJ.....other than the president of US or the CIA, I don't see how head of DHS can be controlled.....unless there is an incentive offered.....if that is the case, then what is that incentive?

Personally I don't think they (Bertram, etc) are part of RJ's team, instead they are out to get RJ before jane does.....

Oh yes!!!! Bruno has lied to us :) AND played with our minds :)

Haffners face at the end of the last episode when he's lifting the weights looks like the red John smiley a bit.

Not saying this is a theory, but a very noticeable feature about haffner when he's lifting the weights

I find it ridiculous that some people here think Red John has a fear of birds. How the hell did they come up with this idea? Just because there were pigeons in both episodes? lol

As the search for Red John is coming to an end, I wonder what will happen when Red John is finally caught. The serie will and must take another twist. Maybe it's a long shot but I can't be blamed for not  trying.
Is it in the name Red John?
John the Baptist in the Bible is the forerunner/precursor of something greater: Jesus (in Red John's case of evil). John prepared the way for Jesus.
Is Red John preparing the way for a greater evil that will be bestowed on the world?

If you look into the names of Ray Haffner and Roy Tagliaferro. The meaning of Ray/Roy has something to do with red and king/counsel. Red John is clearly a narcissist and every narcissist feels he is king of the world. Ray Haffner is showing all the traits of the perfect narcissist. A troubled past. A smooth operator. And under all that grey hair Ray Haffner (Reed Diamond) is originally a ginger.
Haffner means maker of pottery Tagliaferro means iron cutter in italian. Both are craft guilds.
Has this something to do with freemasonry?!
John the Baptist and the Evangelist are very important within freemasonry. A long shot.
Freemasonry, Visualize, secret societies, conspiracies
With greater conspiracies, greater fun
We'll have to wait and see
Have fun finding clues
