PJ knew someone was trying to find out about his stuff so he left FAKE material.

Kirkland obviously was behind it and got a fake list and in 06x04, he is going to find out his list is fake and he is pissed.

Someone else had earlier specified that Kirkland was trying to find Red John himself and the torture threat of PJ makes me think that he lost someone to Red John and is intent on killing RJ himself.  So he is torturing PJ to get the real list.

Bruno Heller has confirmed that RJ is on the list of seven so now it seems that it's not Partridge or Kirkland.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Red John save Patrick from Kirkland.

My best guess is that RJ is Reede Smith, but that's based on the earlier theory by someone else:

My main point was that I don't think it's Kirkland based on what we just saw.

Who's being played for fools? The producers of this show are one step ahead of us, folks. Pigeon-phobia my foot.

Sherif Tom McAllister is a dude!

If you watched the promo for Red-Listed (Season 6-Episode 4) then you would know that the list Jane made is fake and that the men on the list we know of are in danger. He says that he knows someone was looking through his stuff, hence him smiling when he found the toothpick on the ground. I believe that this new list is going to be more narrow and it will have completely different people, which would be a major turn of events for the storyline of Season 6

Biggest red herring in TV history, or the real deal?

End of 6x3, bird flys in front of McAllister and scares the shit out of him. He says "Didn't see that coming".

I didn't want to believe the pidgin theory, but damnit, might be true.

"I could marry you off in a second. Hi Ron"

It goes against everything I believe in. But CBI Ron has to be the most paid extra in TV history if he isn't RJ. Good lord.

Here I am for my last theory.
After I watch ep.6x03 I finally know who Red John is!
it's Sheriff Thomas "Tom" McAllister, I'm 100% sure.
After I've watched this episode I know I was right about RJ's phobia;
This is my previous theory about it:

I was wrong about pointing the finger on Haffner, but I was right about the pigeons.

And this is my previous theory about McAllister. Obviously now he is my main (and only) suspect! :D

So, that's all! I can't wait to see the great performance of Xander Berkeley as Red John: he will be amazing!

I don't think RJ is any of the remaining suspects of the list. I think Jane is one step ahead and knowing that accomplices if not RJ himself are in the CBI or its surroundings, and that everything they do and know there will be known by RJ... the whole list is a diversion.
