THE THEORIES

Am a long time reader but first time poster so apologies if
I am repeating info but am trying to add new positive insight to the Brett
Partridge theories.  Have watched The
Mentalist from the beginning and have enjoyed re-watching several of the
episodes to connect the “Red” dots so here goes…

1.
 Believe
the writers are having a good time sending us messages which pertain to our
list of suspects.  In the conversation
between Wayne Rigsby and Kimball Cho in 6.4 “Red Listed”, they are discussing
reading studies on the Internet.  As Cho facetiously
promotes a ridiculous Internet study, he flippantly argues with Rigsby by
saying “I’m just telling you what the Internet said.”  Rigsby, trying to disagree with the silly
theory, emphatically replies with “Anyone can say anything on the
Internet.  It doesn’t mean it is true.”  That in mind, believe the writers are saying just
because we have read articles on the internet about Brett Partridge, or the
character we know as Partridge, is really dead, doesn’t mean it is true.

2.
Per conversations between Patrick Jane and
Walter Mashburn, in “Redline” first aired 2/4/10, Walter says:  “Patrick, we’ve been this way before, let’s
go back.”  Patrick’s response is “Oh
please be patient.  See, the thing is
Walter, no matter how smart a plan you make, there is always someone smarter
who will see through it.  Makes it very
hard to get away with murder.”  Believe
this conversation can be the writers’ homage and complements to the
viewers.  For those of us who have
thought Brett Partridge was Red John from the beginning, the writers have to
throw us several curve balls to keep us interested and wondering if we were wrong
or were if we were really right that Brett Partridge is Red John.

3.
With that in mind, the number one curve
ball from the writers was “killing off” Brett Partridge from the beginning of
the sixth season. However, as many viewers have speculated, and as the writers
have done in episode “Red Hot” from 11/4/10, not every upfront murder ends in
death.  At the end of the show, Patrick
gets to confront the killer who turned out to be Walter Mashburn’s enemy Yuri Bajoran.  Yuri, who had
supposedly died at the beginning of the episode, had staged his own death from
the beginning of the episode.  Smug Patrick,
who was sure from the beginning Yuri was not dead, says to him at his capture:  “Yuri Bajoran, you’re looking delightfully
not so blown up by a bomb.  Very clever
of you, I must say, no one suspects a dead man, well, almost no one.”  Patrick continues to prove his point of the
staged death when he says there was “a little DNA sprinkled everywhere to prove
you died in that explosion.”  So, with
the writers playing the undead death card before, don’t put it past them to
have done it, again.  Certainly with
Brett Partridge’s forensic/medical background, he would easily know how to
stage his own death with a little blood and DNA.

4.
Other items to point out
about the possible staged death scene of Brett Partridge:

a.
If you watch this scene posted by
CBS on Youtube several years ago, you will see Brett Partridge wearing a
wireless headset which gives him the tools for making a clear handsfree phone
call while toying with a bloody knife:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNNVF8rJjrw

b.
Forensic agents have to have
medical training including doing autopsies.
Believe the knife being shown at the end of 6.1 Dessert Rose is a
medical/surgical hook knife which is the kind of knife a forensic agent with
medical training might have in his tool kit.

c.
In 3.3 The Blood On His Hands Kristina Frye has
been found with an IV puncture wound on her arm.  It would take some degree of medical training
to withdraw and IV of blood.

5.
If it is Brett Partridge then it will be no
surprise to find out that the name Brett Partridge is a pseudonym (his name has
been changed to protect the innocent or the guilty).  Per Wikipedia, “According to Greek legend,
the first partridge appeared when Daedalus threw
his nephew, Perdix, off the sacred hill of Minerva in a fit
of jealous rage. Supposedly mindful of his fall, the bird does
not build its nest in the trees, nor take lofty flights and avoids high places.[1]”  With that tale in mind, could be symbolic for
Brett Partridge being the nephew of Bret Styles and he was thrown out of
Visualize due to his bad behavior but, since he is family, Bret Styles still
keeps up with him and protects him up to a point.  Would also be where Red John could have
learned from the master on how to draw people into his own cult.  Would even be willing to say that Ray Haffner
is Bret’s son, making him Brett’s cousin and has used his influences to protect
him as well as carry out some of his wishes, too.  Haffner does look like he could have posed as
a motorcycle cop to poison Sam Bosco’s secretary Rebecca as she is walking down
the CBI halls in chains.  If you look at
the processional of the motorcycle cop on the right side as they are bringing
her to CBI, he does resemble Haffner.

6.
Last but not least, as far as Tyger, Tyger goes,
maybe Partridge, aka Red John, has been saying those words to Patrick et al to
get them to look for the connection of corruption in the government that is not
Red John’s cult but instead Read John’s enemy.
Would throw them off of his scent for a while and take out many of his
enemy’s.  Perhaps the Red John password
is Roll Tide for the Crimson Tide that Kristina Frye said to the waiter while
on her date with Patrick.

Happy Birthday to actor Jack Plotnick aka Brett Partridge!!!.  Whether you are proven to be the Real Red
John, or not, you have done a great job of portraying to many, many fans our
idea of who we think should be Red John!
No matter who it is in the end, you will always be my pick for the best
Red John!  Happy almost Halloween
Birthday to a great actor who despite his great looks and happy outlook in real
life, portrays a great Irksome Ghoul on

Have you noticed that while PJ is talking with Partridge, Bertram or McAllister, he carefully examines how they react in the episodes? But it seems he has no interest in Smith or Haffner?

The Hightower conundrum is solved by Tiger Tiger trying to kill her, not Red John.  At no point do I recall that we know that O'Laughlin was working for Red John. He may have been part of Tiger Tiger instead.  My biggest question now becomes how did Timothy Carter know to be in the food court.  He would have had to have Bertram's office bugged?

O'Laughlin belonging to Tiger Tiger and killing Todd Johnson makes more sense than Red John having him killed.  The police officers killed by Todd Johnson were being weeded out by Tiger Tiger.  Remember Todd Johnson said that "this is bigger than you could image," similar to what Reede Smith said to Kirkland.

This would be a great surprise.  Brett Partridge was Red John and Tiger Tiger killed him.  That would solve the problem that Red John is on the list, but he will not be revealed in Sunday's episode, leaving one more episode to determine that he was Red John.  Secondly, the Roslind Harker problem can be solved the same way as Timothy Carter.  Perhaps Roy Tagliaferro, Timothy Carter, etc are minions of Red John and Harker's description becomes irrelevant.

Hi,

I am re-watching some important episodes and trying to understand the underlying presumptions that we have and never challenges or didn't find any answers for.

Please help me in reviewing these questions and finding answers to them to find RJ based on the best theories.

1. Why did RJ want to kill Hightower by risking so many of his links? Why so much insistence?!

2. What happened to Kristina Frye? Why is no-one contacting her anymore after being free from RJ?

3. Why did Kirkland kill Jason Lennon?

One Answer)  Is it because he thinks he might be RJ? (I don't buy the fact that we are suddenly going to see a new character as his twin! That's too dramatic!)

4. How did RJ guess the list?

5. Why Jane doesn't take the suspects to Rosalynd Harker?

6. Why tell the list to CBI and talk about it everywhere easily when RJ has spies in police?

7. What is the "biggest clue" in 6.1 Bruno Heller was talking about?

8. Relation between Tiger Tiger group and RJ?

9.Why didn't RJ kill TL? Is this the clue?

10. What is RJ's next move after the list is revealed? Why RJ killed Brett partridge first? Why did he say tiger tiger?

11. Why bugging Cho by Amateur PI? Who killed her? Was it RJ or someone else with other intentions bugged and killed her with a different style.

ONE APPROACH FOR THE SOLUTION: Let's put ourselves in PJ's shoes! What would he really do, based on all other episodes we have watched so far in any single case? He would design a trick.

But what is the structure of his tricks?

a) Everything initiates with a smart guess! based on a single clue, which seems unimportant.

b) He should leverage that information which the killer/RJ doesn't know (in most cases even CBI don't know, unless he needs people to work out the plan for him and in these cases TL and Agent Cho are his more trustworthy companions.)

c) He becomes the proactive player of the game, something that police couldn't become, because they are morally and ethically and legally banned to do! Then he makes the killer/RJ become the reactive player. To do something based on incidental action, without thinking about the long-term consequences.

d) He uses deceitful techniques to diverge everyone's attention to somewhere where it is not important from somewhere that the real action is going on.
 And...

e) he patiently waits for the killer's move like going to a fishing in a camping trip!

Now! Based on this: Maybe we can answer some of the questions by disecting the RJ case based on this structure:

5) 7) 9)

Maybe Rosalynd Harker (Katrine and Hightower) are the clue/leverages that PJ is using, but he deflects the attention of the team in a way that she is safe and PJ can verify the real killer by her. We know whenever the CBI, FBI and hence RJ pays attention to a witness, he/she is really in danger!

Maybe not killing the TL is one big leverage, or something else that could be found in the last scenes of episode one, something that has made PJ to guess and find RJ has done something wrong and therefore initiate the trick.

6) 10) 11)

Maybe these thing are happening since RJ and the whole CBI team's attention have been deflected in the game that PJ has been designed. Maybe PJ is now in control of the game, by making RJ angry or confused! Maybe PJ has provoked the Red Dragon to come out of his Cave without prior planning for the first time of the show!

8)

The only thing that remains is the role of Tiger Tiger group. To decode this role, one should guess to whom are they closer? Are they closer to RJ or PJ or none of them? How about their actions? Is it helping PJ or RJ in long-term? Are they part of the Patrick's game also or they are a nuisance for his plans? An unwelcome inevitable consequence of devising a trick to provoke the bad guys?! Or are they making it harder for RJ to stay undercover and do whatever RJ wants and therefore loose his temper and cool?

That's my two cents! Please mention your reasonable challenging questions, and you could also formulate an answer for them using the structure I've mentioned.

For those that keep saying that Brett Partridge is dead because Bruno Heller said so, I wanted to say that you are absolutely correct. Brett Partridge IS dead and Red John is the one that killed him just like Heller said. Red John no longer needs Partridge. Truth is, Partridge never existed. Red John only created him to have access to Patrick and the case. He is now just Red John and nothing more.
