No pigeons this time...surprised :)
They told us that in this episode we would find out the reason why Brett Partridge was murdered...but we didn't. Yes, Partridge said "Tyger, Tyger" before he died, and yes, we found out that Tyger Tyger is the password for a "group" of people within the CBI/FBI. Yet..that still tells us NOTHING about why Partridge would be murdered. Was he a liability? How? Why was it necessary that he be eliminated? He seems so fascinated by and admiring of Red John..why would he ever try to reveal his identity (if he knew it.) Doesn't seem like he would want to betray someone who seems to be an idol to him. Here is my humble opinion:
I still choose to believe that Partridge is Red John and faked his own death. Why? Because there is still no proof to show me I'm wrong. And until Red John is revealed to be someone else, I will not change my opinion. Honestly, I think all of the other suspects would be disappointing. There would be no "wow" factor, no "Didn't see that coming" as said in the words of Sheriff McAllister. Just think of how awesome a moment it will be if/when Jane gathers all of the remaining suspects together in "Fire and Brimstone" and he suddenly realizes something, and he turns around and says "Red John is none of these men." Now THERE would be a shock factor! Still crossing my fingers for Partridge.
What do you guys think?
I would be disappointed if it is not him.
There are several reasons, some people here have mentioned.
* The underlying of my reasons is the Wow factor that the show needs! In the end you need to say, wow! that was smart! If Ray Haffner or Stiles or Bertram are RJ, then how on earth in the end you would feel well of showing a detective show for more than 100 episodes?! So I will explain how that Wow factor is built, it it is Patridge!
First 3 simpler reasons,
1- There is too much emphasize on him being dead. And it is not believable. If you think about it, If they wanted to kill any suspect from the list, it is harder to make the show so bad, that the audience still believe he is not alive.
2- In the Script, if you were RJ, and you're such a smart guy, what would you do after you tell Patrick that you know the list, you'll wait until everyone is dead and let him catch you?!!
Nope! you would fake your death! and enjoy watching the show! That's a classic Red John everyone expects from!
3- All the others are so much visible, so much obvious for being RJ that it is funny to be them. Even if my theory is wrong then the show in not that impressive, you agree when it is giving direct clues that Reede Smith or others are killing people, connecting them to RJ!
** Now the WOW Factor for the show:
- The classic way for proving that we were all wrong and the show's director is so smart, we need a flash back! we'll go to the previous cases, when we see the RJ's opening to the case. The interesting thing about Partridge is that he was there from the very FIRST EPISODE!
He was there and misinforming the police team about a case that he knew it wasn't his job as RED JOHN. But he still did that with confidence, because he knew that Patrick's first job is there and he was there to observe him. To guide him! Because he has always liked Patrick! The fact that he was there and playing such a cruel joke in the first episode, makes a real shocking wow factor when you see it in flash back. You feel that you had been tricked nicely and you'll probably don't feel wasting your time. It also proves another point! That the writer's team has been planning the roles of the characters from the very beginning. And if you look at it well, you would see that he would show up every now and then, and that's what you expect from RJ and more importantly the writers' team.
Not to build RJ's character in the middle of the series! or just bring him for the last episodes.
This is another level of professionalism for the writers and that's how they are satisfied with as well!
Thanks and I hope it is convincing!,

first of all, theres a tigertiger organisation going on which makes it very hard to define who is red john and who is just a member(might be both, since rj would be perfectly cloaked)
second thing that comes to my mind, WHY did redjohn kill brett partridge?
2 possibilities imo:
. he was part of his cult and was a weak part(HOWEVER why would he know redjohn personally?)
. he isnt really dead...what a way to get removed from the list(very tricky but genious)
what makes me think of option 2 is: we never did see the dead body...lisbon got attacked from behind when she turned her back to pj(s6.1)...and again WHY would they kill him in episode1, since not even jane could see if he tells the truth by starring at him("either he tells the truth or he is a very good actor-which red john should be)
spoileralert!
I been ABSOLUTELY convinced since episode 1 that Brett Partridge is dead. To me anyone who said he was alive is an idiot...Reallly. But now I'm reconsidering...I don't know how to link, but theory #6373 just makes too much sense. So now I'm asking you!
Green: You still think BP is operating solely as RJ
Red: No, I was right before to think he was dead.
Not sure who is red john tbh.
However just rewatched the season 5 finale today. When Patrick mentions his happy memory on Eileen Barlow Lisbon says something very interesting. She says her happy memory is of her mother feeding pigeons.......
Weird.
