I think Alex is Red John When Jane broke with his father i think he just

`RAY` who is the executor of his crimes because of his age also think Brett knows it but can not reveal Patrick because Alex has it in his hands
  Luther Patrick threantened to resign and then eventually died; Bosco also not liked Patrick and died
kirkland tried torturing and died qhenever someone threatens Jane ends up giving bad
seems Fatherly protection.

Two criteria I consider are: the suspect's ability to intrigue me and the skillfulnes of the actor portraying him.  Based on those criteria by themselves I would pick Stiles who is portrayed by a very distinguished actor.  Should the show continue after the Red John reveal, I could enjoy watching a battle of wits between Jane and Stiles.
However, I can't totally ignore the other clues.  Unless it is a red herring that can be explained, one of the clues SEEMS to suggest that Stiles is too old to be Red John.  I can't completely dismiss that.
Recently I watched Whedon's version of Shakespeare's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, and I noticed the  outstanding performance of the actor who played the Prince.  This same actor portrays Haffner. I think that an accomplished Shakespearean actor probably has the skill to portray an interesting nemesis of Jane.  So I lean toward suspecting that Haffner is Red John.

I have a question to ask? Thinking back over the season 3 ending. How did Red John know to go to the mall? I know that was not the real Red John but beside the point how Did he know to send the fake to the mall? 

If I remember correct Van Pelts fiance did not know this part of the plan?

everybody is making a big deal about the meeting between bertram, smith and McAllister with what smith said to bertram that it was his job to find out what jane knows. leading to believe that both bertram and smith are part of tyger tyger. nobody is talking about what hightower said that it was her job to report what she know about jane and is now bertram job. so smith is correct that it is his job, but bertram is not necessarily part of tyger tyger. this would be just one of a long line of heller giving what was believed to clue. to having it mean something else. I believe someone else in cbi is the mole.

In some episode, Jane says he always trusts his first instincts towards anyone. Therefore, I believe there could be a clue when we watch the first appearances of each suspect on Jane's list.

If Partridge is REALLY dead, then Haffner is my choice, I don't know why.

If we are to believe that Bruno Heller and the writers of The Mentalist had Red John and who he was picked out, and his entry into the series plotted out for more than just the past season then I believe it must be Ray Haffner.

If you assume they knew who Red John was and are not just picking a guest that was previously on the show and trying to whittle him into Red John, then Ray Haffner's story fits not only the clues we know about Red John but the personality as well.

If you go back and watch "Little Red Book" which is Ray Haffner's intro to the series and look at with the expectation he is Red John every thing he says and does takes on significance. Assuming Ray is Red John, who became increasingly obsessed with Patrick Jane and took the assignment as a chance to not only observe Jane but uses it as an attempt to befriend him and his team.

-Ray is very prominently shown shaking Jane's hand when he meets him
-Ray specifically tells Jane he wanted to work with him.
-Ray tells Jane very seriously 'I would have worked with you, given the chance" (could be a double meaning - as Red John and as Haffner to Jane)
-Ray happily accepts Van Pelt on his team (to the surprise of J.J. LaRoche) he is eager to work with all of the team.
-He tries to befriend/turn Cho, ostensibly as part of Haffner's team against Jane but again could be a double meaning. As Red John,  is he looking for "weak" people in Jane's group or possible acolytes?
-He questions Cho on Jane- what do you thing of Jane? Do you trust him? is he smarter than Haffner? Cho? He is more interested in Jane than the case.
-He pats Cho on the shoulder as Red John did to Jane.
-Even LaRoche thinks Haffner is behaving oddly and asks if "everything is alright?" because he is being so accommodating to Jane and his team.
- He says to Jane "it's a nice little game you ran on Tork"
-He says to Jane "You wanted my attention, you got my attention but if you try to run another game on me or my people we're going to have a problem" spoken as Haffner but also applicable as Red John.
-He says to Jane "did you really think that was going to happen that I wasn't watching you every minute" (may explain how Red John knew the seven suspects. He has been doing surveillance on Jane for years. He knew every person Jane had met, maybe even has tapes. Haffner is the "surveillance expert."
-Bertram says to Haffner (ominously?) "I thought you could handle Jane" and "Dont worry we'll find something else for you" and Haffner smiles (kind of odd considering he is being effectively fired)
-Haffner is a smart man who has worked his way up the ranks but he falls for all of Jane's tricks? He is obviously taking the job to observe them all, then let Lisbon have her job back now his "surveillance" is done.
-After his time with the team, Jane (and after Sam Bosco and Rebecca) he becomes interested in Lisbon. (because he knows she is important to Jane?)
-He tries to "take" Lisbon away by offering her a job or just testing her loyalty to Jane?
-Red John is supposed to be very convincing and hypnotic. Ray gives a very compelling speech to Lisbon asking if she is really attached to Jane not the work. His argument about her being alone with the work clearly strikes a chord with Lisbon. He has accurately read her desires and her fears regarding Jane. He is charming, empathetic and flattering with her.
-He is consistently good-natured and the only suspect of the five left who is believably charming and irresistible to women like Lorelei, Rebecca etc.
- He says "if there's one thing I've learned about Jane it's that catching bad guys is a game to him"
-He tells Lisbon "You're missing out on something big"
-The obvious clues mentioned everywhere, age and a member of Visualize.
-Lorelei his acolyte mentions how Jane is "a little bit in love" with Lisbon- did she get this from Haffner/Red John?
-Lisbon's head is the price of Jane's loyalty to Red John. Haffner is one person who saw how important they are to each other.
-Red John sent Lorelei, a woman to Jane. Was it to alienate Lisbon.
-Ray's seeming interest in Lisbon, always telling her how much he likes her, making sure he is her 'friend."
-Even when he comes to speak to Lisbon about a case, he can't help asking about Jane. How did Jane pull off his latest trick? Then smiling.

Plus all of the behavior recently- Red John sparing Lisbon, claiming her with his mark, the creepy hospital behavior etc etc etc.

Out of anyone he has the best back story and the most interaction with Jane and the team. I think it will be disappointing if it turns out to be anyone else.

Ok guys listen up , I'm going to make an extremely LOONG theory Discussing every possible clue we have until today , one by one and you should definitely read this because its not some "Van pelt Is rj Kind of bull haha" first im going to be using the major clues we have on red john..afterwards im going to be using some of that proof to remove suspects after that im going to post every possible thing we can benefit from bruno hellers Interviews.. alright so let me begin!

What do we know about Red john??

We have Sophie millers description , :--  "Good health", "Good posture" ,"self possessed" , "Excellent whistler" , "Phobia issues" ,  "something Dark about his makeup"

We have Rosalind harkens description,:-  Average built, Just under six feet tall , soft but strong hands.. 

We also know Red john is charismatic and has many many people following him , we know hes not a loser hiding out in his moms basement he is very organised and comes from money.. we can tell from the time that Red john got patrick in the limo , we can also tell Red john is a male so please no more van pelt theories its driving me nuts...
 
Now something i established by myself (could be over thinking) , is that Something about him made her feel uncomfortable.. she did say she felt he has a narcissistic personality and has a dark emotional make up.. so red john might be charismatic and good looking or whatever but theres a huge possibility he comes up as a creep infront of people who can read others...

Now starting from the list let me start by Eliminating the first 2 suspects.. Partridge and Kirkland.. 
Now i'm not saying hes definately dead even though the actor jack plotnick said he was gone off the show for good and he doesn't appear in any more episodes in season 6 , he could be alive and bruno could be messing with us but that wont be a good reveal it would just be very disappointing in my opinion , Now Kirkland is definitely dead for sure and im going to eliminate the "His twin brother is red john theory" , when Bob/Michael killed lennon in the hospital he said:- "Do you recognise me.. have you seen me before?? when he says no , Bob says .. Thank god.. then kills him and says im a friend and if im ever in your position i hope someone does the same for me, why on earth would bob kill a suspect that knows red john. unless it was michael working for Red john.. but since lennon didnt recognize him its safe to presume he isn't red john but merely a disciple ,, ,... let me move on

so 2 down 5 to go , let me put these 5 in separate groups,,

We know stiles owns visualize and has a direct connection with red john , we also know haffner works there and fits the description.. but let me go into more detail.. Bruno heller said that figuring out the Tyger tyger Organization will go a long way in finding out who red john is, does that mean hes definately in that organization??? Definitely not i mean it is possible i just think it would be rather dissapointing because the tyger tyger group seems like a bunch of little kids running around , they could be protecting red john they could be after him for some personal vendetta the possibilities are endless for Bruno Heck they could be in competition with visualize , they could be in co operation with visualize But Lets think this through very carefuly.. IF red john was infact in tyger tyger , then that means he would have also been @ elliston farm meaning hes in tyger tyger and visualize .. this could mean two things:- Hes a spy for visualize if they are in competition.... or Hes in both Since they are working together , In my opinion From just intuition is that Tyger tyger is after red john and not covering him up.. but red john could be a member of tyger tyger just to mess with them , in this case i think it could be mcallister for the many reasons of him saving jane , he isnt as dumb as he looks , but like i said i doubt hes a member of this so called tyger tyger , but if he was he could be mcallister.. but i have a whole theory about how mcallister is a rapist (odd as it sounds i have a good explanation for this) , when he crept up on van pelt and tried subduing her is one thing , the rest i just think He is definitely hiding something i can tell but what it is? i dont know.. 

Anyways so if red john is not a member of Tyger tyger lets cross out Bertram , smith , mcallister I strongly believe none of them are red john

And now we have 2 people left , both are in visualize one has a deep connection with bret stiles , (Stiles knows who red john is ) , now who would stiles know out of those 4:? Logically it would be haffner , unless theres a major twist in events or something .. ( Doubt it ) ,  Now why am i not fitting it in my head that stiles is red john? IF stiles was red john i would break my laptop in half and shit all over it because It doesn't fit in any way possible! except for the money and charisma part , Age doesn't fit , His actions dont fit! why would he let lorlei escape out of prison to help jane! , i seriously doubt hes red john but he does know red john personally ! anyways any of these 5 characters turning out to be  red john is kind of a let down... but haffner is infact the best candidate to be red john amongst the five suspects.. is raymond haffner , Since We don't know much about any of the suspects other than what they are letting us know , anyone of them could really just put on the act but haffner is the best character to be red john, Let me know what you guys think about this whole thing , oh one more thing , i think the fact that partridge said tyger tyger before he died Could mean he was hypnotized to not Blur out who the killer was Or he was actually hinting it to lisbon so she could understand something but why wouldn't he Just Spit out the identity of red john... maybe he knows hes in the group but hasnt seen his face... maybe partridge was an accomplice and When jane scared him Red john thought of it as him cracking and went to murder him , idk This is a part that doesn't make sense at all unless he was hypnotized , because we know red john can hypnotize people...  also The actor that plays Kirkland is coming back in episode 8 , THIS DOES NOT MEAN HES RED JOHN......... this simply means either jane will convince michael that kirkland was killed by red john/Tyger tyger ... this will cause him to give up red johns identity Or it could be a silly flashback! but we'll know when we know won't we? :)
