For some reason I think it's Lorelai father (or stepfather), the one we saw in the pictures at L's mother house.

The only doubt is that we never saw him shaking hands/meeting Jane.

S05 E07 - At the End of the episode, PJ bumps into Robert(Bob) Kirkland:

BK: Sorry mr. Jane.
PJ: Do I know you?

BK: No...but I know you.

then he smiles and leaves.


S05 E08 - Lorelai tolds Patrick:

PJ: I am nothing like him..
L:  How would you know?  I know!

L:  I only wonder why the TWO of you didn't become life long friends
    the moment you shook hands. [S05 E07]

Then at the end of the episode, after PJ crashes the car, he can hear Kirkland, who give some instruction on the radio.

PJ makes a weird face and ask Lisbon:

PJ: Who's that guy?
L: Don't talk, help is on the way.

It's Lison's brother the bounty hunter. 


PJ shook hands with him and instantly knew he was a cocaine user, which is why Lorelei mentions it because it was the only memorable handshake of the entire series.  The Tyger poem relates to Lisbon's struggles in dealing with finding out her brother has been usurping power and police information to become a serial killer so she's connected with Jane in that way because they are close and it was her own family that killed his.  He's also handsome and smooth.  Robert Kirkland might suspect it even that's why he's playing games with Lisbon to get close just in case he's right, and he probably wants to make sure she isn't helping him.  Why else would he want to buy her a cup of coffee?  Like RJ and his cohorts really are worried about stupid Lisbon, and I'm sure it's not about just trying to get a date, he is genuinely concerned to explore the angle that he has just discovered. 

I think, the writers themselves have no idea who Red John is and they are just making it up as they go along....perhaps using internet theories to steer toward a finaly reveal...

That would be so ironic if true :-p

Red John is very powerful, has a lot of disciples.Also we know that is a tall character.And in some way has some sort of style, like PJ.
Of course is absolutley smart.I think B.H is playing with us, showin a character in the shadows that is the mos likely to be RedJohn in the "Red dawn" episode ending.
And showing him again in the last episode, makes me think that maybe we are finally meeting RedJohn himself.

It is tall, intelligent, in a position of power(NSA), he has about the same age as PJ.He is kind of threatening, but not disturbing crazy.About the voice we could say that is like the other suspects, but he has something extra, call it the X factor.
What can I say?: ROBERT KIRKLAND IS RED JOHN.
Untill we watch him murder someone (most likely from CBI) this will be a theory.

Rj is an organisation or a company, its kinda secret...i think of that because if he has men or friends and they switch the mobile and took the gun...they better shoot Pj ..and why they didn't check the security cameras while Rj is sitting alone they could see the gun inside the newspaper...and then free from all charges at the court so there are many heads to the same snake and let him free!
and maybe the writer is th Rj...;P

Officer Brett Partridge, i have watched this clip and as a comment to the clip is this -- You can't see it in this video, but if you watch the full episode, when Jane is in the room in the first scene shown here, he leaves then walks back in and says " One more thing". If you watch the following scene in full, Red John leaves Patrick then comes back and says " One more thing" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6hU_l2wWwQ watch the clip, its very plausible!! but who knows?? :)
