I think it's a double play by Jane. He made up the whole suspects-on-the-board thing. Proof for that is when Jane got back from one case in one of the last episodes, he saw that someone has been in his room (the little feather or piece of paper or whatever, laying on the floor before the door that was planted by Jane) and he smiled, meaning he wanted Red John to see the board so it has to be fake. What was Jane trying to accomplish? Maybe the outcome is just as he expected - to made Red John angry, but what for? so he'd kill more offen? i dont get it :/ but I still think its a double play by Patrick.
