This is not really a theory. Just an opinion I have.

I think Kirkland works for RJ. So Kirkland got all the information that jane had in his room and created a historic of happenings in his own home to investigate them. But Patrick made some changes on his investigation, so when Kirkland guys entered Patricks room to stole information, they stole wrong data, wrong information that Kirkland will investigate. That's why Patrick was happy when he noticed someone entered the room.

So now Patrick knows that RJ will know that he is investigating all RJ crimes and creating a list of suspects. The thing is, Patrick is one step ahead because the information that they stole from him is wrong.

So Kirkland made the investigation with the information he got, and created a list of 7 suspects to give to RJ. The thing is RJ will have a different list from Patrick Jane.

So what I think is Patrick Jane really has a list of 7 suspects, but with different persons. And I think he acts like he is frustrated and breaks the CD, so nobody will notice that he is ahead of RJ. Not even Lisbon. I don't know if this makes sense at all. Just an opinion.

And for me, RJ is Bret Partridge or Mineli or CBI Ron...
