well.. no reason. hes just too lovable and clumsy. as a sociopath he might be doing that on purpose. everyone who knows red john seem to be under his 'spell' so to say.. Rigsby most definitely look like he could not hurt a fly but i can easily imagine him as a bad childhood screw up who just also happens to be very smart.
