ROLL TIDE

First of all, let me say that I am one of you who cannot accept that McAllister is Red John. (I felt better about it when we thought it was Timothy Carter; I could have lived with that.) Furthermore, I am also of the common mind that believes that all that has occurred after the bomb in Jane's house is some sort of comatose dream.

I posted a theory a couple of weeks ago, prior to "My Blue Heaven", where I presented a few reasons that Bret Stiles (among a few others) could be Red John, mostly because of his intellect and acuity, which makes him an ideal nemesis for Patrick Jane. He is, I feel, the only man who could possibly challenge Jane, and play this game with him for so long.

But here is something that bothers me: "Roll Tide"

I've always thought that Kristina Frye was a real psychic. She read the waiter when she and Jane were on their date. Her reading was extremely precise, including the "Roll Tide" rally cry.

Red John said "Roll Tide" to Patrick later in the episode during their meeting. He was really saying "I was there, I heard it, at the restaurant. Just wanted you to know."

So where was he? Was he the waiter? The diner visible in that scene? 

Or is he Kristina Frye?

1) Yes. She is the only other character on the show who possesses the same level of intellect and acuity as Patrick. Aside from Stiles, she is the only other mathematical possibility. They are the only ones that can defeat him with words. There was an unmistakable magnetism between them. Unfortunately, she has only appeared in four episodes, and viewers who have started watching since that episode will not know about her.

2) No. But, if she is a true psychic, she is still possibly involved, depending on what McAllister said at the beginning of his death scene:
Did he say
"I am a psychic" ?
-or-
"I have psychic..." (and the word "powers" or "abilities" was cut off by Jane's hand on his throat?
-or-
"I have a psychic" ?

(I watched the scene over and over, trying to discern the words, but I had so much trouble.)

If the latter is what he said, he could have been referring to Kristina Frye.

Knowing that she is a psychic, her kidnapped her, brainwashed her, and has been using her as a weapon against Jane this entire time. She divined his list for Red John. I'll bet that Jane also knew all along that she was a real psychic, he just couldn't admit it to himself, much less anyone else, because of his past, and the harm that his former life caused to others.

Agree: You think that Kristina Frye IS a psychic, AND that McAllister was referring to her in his death scene OR that she is Red John.

Disagree: You think that she is not a psychic, and has not been invisibly involved at all since her departure from the show.

Hi everyone, I hope someone is here after so many years! I would like to ask if someone has a copy of The Mentalist LEAKED Red John episode (Season 6 episode 8), since I think it should be archived. I have not watched it but I am aware that there are very little differences but I believe it should be accessible to the fans of the show for the history of it. If someone has it please share it with the community. Thank you in advance!

Now up to this point i could never make an educated guess on who is Red John without sufficient evidence and since November 24th 2013 will in fact reveal the identity of the man we spent 5 years waiting to meet, i think now is a good a time as any. Now we all watched the explosion and how Stiles, Haffner and McAllister are all 3 supposedly "Dead" , although there was no real physical evidence aside from that one foot found in the wreckage which could simply mean 1 or 2 of the three survived and the other was disembodied probably by a bomb placed on them by My main suspect. In this case , Bret Stiles was the walking bomb as McAllister and Haffner were sitting directly next to him on both sides during Jane's interrogation. He smelled of pine, nails and earth as described in Season 1 finale, this could easily be the smell of a Cop whom patrols near alot of woods and acres of lands as seen in his first appearence in season 1. He also fits the age profile of a man whom murdered 30 years ago, seems to get angry around Jane when Jane makes his quirky statements which is one of the few things that got Jane's wife and child killed. Also , he could move about the streets and buildings without being recognized because he isn't a well known person outside of his jurisdiction. And who would ever suspect a mass murdering serial killer is a sheriff of a backwater town? Now i think 30 years ago something must of happened with Bertrum that resulted in a death, Red John must of found out or was the first reporting officer (could be possible) and realized a potential follower and thus Red John takes credit for a murder bertrum committed. We can see that the heads of CBI were taking off little by little to make way for Gale Bertrum to assume command the second Jane started getting too close. Now if Bertrum was R.J why would he purposely make Jane's job alot easier by hiding in plain sight knowing even one small move could make Jane suspicious? I think Bertrum was put in his position to be a decoy and was told to split the second Jane figured it out (hence the get out of town stock he had in storage unit). So in summary, My guess is Sheriff Thomas McAllister is THE RED JOHN, all the clues fit, he's in law enforcement, he
s about 6ft, he has means, motive, access and above all We DON'T know where he currently is (same for either haffner or stiles). Let me know what you think

There's NO reason to support Mcallister as Red John. This is why we will never have an explanation or revisit Red John, even if we were to confront Heller for answers, because the writers themselves can't come up with enough evidence to support it. It's not 'clever' or 'good writing' to make the one person who could not possibly have been Red John suddenly be Red John this whole time; Thomas Mcallister has had the least fans theorize him as Red John for good reasons.

1. It actually takes longer to get to Tijuana, Mexico from Napa County than it does to get to Tijuana, Mexico from Sacramento. If Red John is supposedly the Sheriff, who would have to be working at this time in Napa County, Jane and co. should have arrived at least minutes before Red John could get to Jared Renfrew and kill him, since they left right away. The only explanation for this is that the oh so convenient Blake Association had corrupt officers at the Mexicali border to kill Jared Renfrew and plant 'He Is Mar' on the wall above him. Is that so hard to explain, writers of The Mentalist?

2. Despite the above, the man who calls Jane whilst in Jared Renfrew's hotel room laughs into the phone, and it sounds undeniably British a la Brett Stiles.

It's obvious this is Red John, and it's not the Sheriff. At this point in the series, Bret Stiles and Ray Haffner are far more likely candidates than Mcallister ever was.

3. "Red John and Jane are very much alike"; "relentless manipulation" according to Lorelei Martins
and Jane about what Lorelei said, and we see this; they both have powers
of mentalism. They both enjoy tea. They both don crisp, clean suits as casual wear. When they say "someone like Jane" and "relentless manipulation", what comes to mind?
The first thing that comes to my mind is Visualize and its countless manipulated
followers, the doing of Bret Stiles. In what possible way is Thomas Mcallister like Patrick Jane? None. Period.

4. Later, when recalling the names of everyone he has shook hands with since his incident, Patrick Jane rules out people who he never saw or heard from again...This, in turn, immediately rules out Thomas Mcallister, who Jane never saw or heard from again after Red Hair and Silver Tape.

5. How does Red John glean Jane's final list of suspects before he could narrow it down himself, and learn of his happy memory in his past? Because he is a real psychic? HAHAHA. NO. One glaringly obvious explanation for this is that Red John, using his own skills of hypnosis he used on Rosalind Harker and Kristina Frye to make her catatonic, plants these name suggestions along with his own so that they can meet eventually, and fishes Jane's memories for something of use to freak him out, if for no other reason than to stroke his own ego. Sweet and simple. This is also how Red John could have been able to plan all of his next moves out perfectly by using these people on the list as pawns over the course of two months prior to Jane seeing the video. I can buy that, after all we have seen Jane capable of. HOWEVER, Mcallister does not fit this role at ALL. Once again, Brett Stiles or a Visualize apprentice, Ray Haffner, are plausible.

In regard to all the analyses of Red John throughout the series: Red John is like Jane, well spoken, listens to classical music, reads classical texts, drinks tea, wears suits, has short, straight hair. He has powers of mentalism, hypnotizing Rosalind Harker as well as Kristina Frye into a catatonic state, possibly implanting the final list of suspects into Jane's mind, and if not this, at the very least we know he extracted a memory from Jane's psyche. The Sheriff, even amongst people not associated with Jane, does not once demonstrate he fits this description. In fact, in the only episode he appears (Red Hair and Silver Tape) before he is nonsensically plugged into season six as unnecessarily creepy going completely against how he is portrayed in the episode he debuts, he is literally a balding small time hick. Incompetent in speech. Incompetent in manner. Incompetent in duty. Poor imitation of Red John's voice. No suits. No tea. No hair. No tricks. No mask. No linoleum knife. Jane did not see or hear from him again after Red Hair and Silver Tape.

Bullshit.

Fuck you, Heller, for not honoring your own art. Fuck Warner Brothers and fuck Peter Roth for forcing Heller to kiss his ass and prematurely ruin the show. May their shitty careers come to a swift and well-deserved end.
