THE THEORIES

I know we all have our own 'special pet project' suspects. I'm in Team Kirkland for example, and there are tons of Patridge fans, ditto for Haffner believers etc etc etc.

Obviously we spend more time focusing on the actions of our personal favourites in the relevant episodes. We focus obsessively on whatever 'clues' OUR personal favourites might be leaving, and we design theories and stories that convince us OUR GUY, is RJ (while often overlooking some pretty cool stuff the other suspects have to offer.....)

Example: I've obsessed (amongst my 100 other reasons that Bob is RJ on my previous theories) about:

Kirkland having a goatee in some episodes and other times not - ditto for the tie. (even going so far as to find a screenwriting reference to 'the goatee theory' - which is apparently common if one wants to differentiate between identical twins in tv/movies - wiki says so)

When Lisbon asks Kirkland where he grew up, he says starts to say WE, then corrects himself and says 'I grew up in America'.

RJ seems to have a thing for twins.

'He is Mar'. I reckon the Mexican prossie wrote that - she was facing the wall. It means, 'He is MANY' - meaning, 'He is 2 people'. English not her language, she sees two men with the same face (the twins) killing her and Renfrew. She might not know what a 'twin' is in English, and '2' didn't make sense to her - so, "He is many".

Kirkland telling Smith when asked what his story was with Jane - "It's a lonngggggggggggggg story".

The one time Kirkland really smiles in all his appearances is when he says, 'But I know you....' to Jane - a genuine smile.

So my question to everyone else is: If RJ turns out to be someone other than your 'fave' will you go back and watch previous seasons and episodes to see what you missed/looked over/ignored/though were red herrings etc?

I know I am going to. If it turns out to be Haffner for example, I will be freeze framing on every scene going way back.

afterthought: When Lorelei said she wondered why they didn't become 'lifelong' best friends when they shook hands - did anyone else get the feeling that what she was sayin was in fact: Jane and John met when they were MUCH younger - teenagers possibly? The term 'lifelong' is usually 'cradle to grave' in nature.
The only friends of mine that I call 'lifelong' are those I have been friends with since school days. Very strange she used the term, 'lifelong'. She could have just said, 'good friends' or 'best friends' NOT 'lifelong best friends'.
So I checked the ages of all the actors = because if this is true, MacAllister and Stiles are gone, because I'm sure PJ is the same age or VERY similar in age to RJ.

I'm certain we're going back to the carnival next week.....teenage/late teen years.
And we will see PJ and RJ shake hands as kids/youngsters.

Thanks for reading - sorry it's a little long.

Hello everyone - after reading a lot of theories and thinking about who Red John is for a long time - i finally would like to explain my latest thoughts. It's not really the try to finally determine who out of the 7 suspects is Red John - but some thoughts.

So let's get started, right?

Most important things first: I think, it COULD be Michael Kirkland. Now before you start yawning and screaming "no - he is dead, dude!" - let me explain.

When Bob/Robert Kirkland explained his background story to Patrick in Episode S06x05 - what do we learn?

We learn about his mother, his dad and his brother.

His dad beat "the crap out of all of them". Until their mother left - with the razor-blade. That's what kicked my theory off. Bob left as well after some time. And when their dad died - michael become the alcoholic. Nothing new until yet.

But then he met someone. As Bob said "someone who finally could help him". Or as Patrick said "More than that - a savior".

Bob believes that it was Red John who helped Michael. But I'm not right sure about it. He never met him by himself (we know that because of..well then Bob would know Red John, right? :P ).

Thinking of the time and the circumstances...couldn't be it that the person who helped Michael wasn't Red John but - Bret Stiles?

Someone who helped him out of his misery, a "savior"  and someone who only wanted devotion and sacrafice in return. Does sound like the things that powerful cult-leaders are made of, doesn't it?

So... the next thing: Despite the killing of the Janes , Dr. Towlen Morning and Panzer - we still don't know WHY Red John started killing. We do only know, that mosts of the time, he kills woman (after raping them) and then draws his mark somewhere.

And why a smiley? A smiley, that also looks like it is crying? A symbol that many, many people would associate with something "childish"?

So let me start with my theory:

What, if Red John is Michael Kirkland. And as Jack the Ripper was killing prositutes for avenging the doing's of his mother (which he hated) - Red John kills woman. He kills Mothers. His mother wasn't helping him or his brother when their dad beat them. They were probably crying and suffering like hell - but she didn't help. (maybe because she just didn't know how to).

So Red John aka Michael is killing Woman - just because of his hateress of woman(but that also just an assumption) and paints a crying, childish face on the wall. If Jay Roth has no psychiatric history (no treatmens) - so doesn't Red John probably had some - so he never had help to get over all of that. He is out for blood and revenge.

Her mother killed herself with a razor blade - maybe is that (and the fact of the slow, painful dead) the reason why he uses knifes.

But how could have Michael shook Patricks Hand? That's the fact I'm not finisehd with yet. Maybe he infiltrated CBI sometimes by playing his role as "Bob"? Not sure about that - but from a psychological point of view it would fit.

Also - that would know why Bret Stiles knows who Red John is and is a little bit laughing when Patricks says "One of you is Red John"  - as Red John isn't in the room. Bret won't be Red John - he made more than one aspersion about Red John - and a person who's actions base on his ego won't do that. Someone who doesn't like to be slandered would not talk like this about himself. Even not to keep his disclorue up.

Also what COULD be a fitting fact: He likes Teresa and spares her life. Maybe because he just wanted to send a message to Patrick via the sign on her face - or just not to end the game yet. Who knows. But maybe he likes her, because she suffered as a child as well - like Michael / Red John - she suffered under an alcoholic dad.

So that's one of my theories. The other ones are "just" from tiger tiger (which i think is a very bad thing in the plot but it's okay). And Haffner..well...he is just acting weird and is a bit foolish about that or just doesn't recognise what his actions are looking like. Who knows.

Guys, guys, guys...

Brett Partridge is NOT Red John because he is DEAD. Simple as that.

How could he fake his death? In 06x02 when Bertram gets to the scene, he is told that a dead body was found which belongs to Brett Partridge. How could it be that he escaped? I mean, if they found his body, they would have taken it to a morgue, investigated the death, etc. So either Brett is definitely dead and he is not Red John, either Bruno Heller thinks we are stupid and makes him Red John. If Partridge turns out to be Red John, then we do need an explanation as to how the hell he escaped without anyone knowing it for 5 episodes.

Something that is more likely, on the other hand, is Kirkland being Red John, because of his twin brother hanging around somewhere with no news about him. It's possible that Michael got shot instead of Bob.

One thing is sure : if it's Smith or McAllister, I will have wasted 5 years of my life.

But hey guys, don't expect anything epic, it won't be. I think when RJ is revealed, everyone is going to go WTF, it should be very disappointing. (Bruno Heller himself said so!!)

Hi, just watched 6/6. I fear the show ruin is coming... Some very absurd things going on.
Let's forget the cramming of the first episodes with clues/misleads... everybody shows to have some phobia and a liking for whistling. We also discover that Bret Stiles likes to paint faces on faces with blood... Not speaking about 2 (two) characters just a couple of words from death... How does TygerTyger is supposed to help me find out who's muredered you???? Say a name instead...

And how does that sound: "Meet me tomorrow night in my secluded, abandoned family residence - presumably alone - some 650 km from here, will you?" ???
And how a CBI director look completely helpless for hours (approx. from well before sunset till pitch black) on the coast road between SF and LA? She still had her badge and weapon, did she?

Sorry to disappoint many. The main argument against Kirkland being RJ - the fact that at mid season 5 Lorelei couldn't possibly know about him shaking hands with PJ - is void.

If PJ has included him in the list, on the handshake basis, he IS right. Or do you believe that PJ can't reason about season 5 as the fans do???

Of course, my statement is fit, if the writers of the show do follow the storyline, remember the events as the fan do. Which is not necesarily true, as - everybody knows - there are business rules, money interests which result in pressure, strict timetables and so on.

I hope there will be no cliche', illogical explanation, absurd twists. Would be a shame to ruin a successul, entertaining show.
