Though we cant pin Patrick completely, Somehow the authour needs to Corner Patrick Jane as Red John as no one else could be a better choice at this moment... Need to cook a lot more possibilities to make PJ as RJ..Bruno needs to fill the holes which he left that rules out Patrick.
There is no one showed as heroic other than Jane which inturn cannot fit perfect if someone else is introduced or Identified as Red John :-))

Other possibilities,
Someone from CBI should be RJ.
Lisbon should be an Insider..
Betram should be an Insider or himself Red John.. :-)

Conflicts,
Narrowing the list is fine, Giving the suspects name is also fine but how the hell would RJ  know the count(7) has been shortlisted ???? Okay we can accept it too, Let RJ have capabilities of reading PJ mind.
But i guess Patrick Narrowed down the list after Loreli Martin's death.. But The Video which gives the detail of Jane's findings was played by Loreli Martin and how the hell could that happen.. This Video proves that there is no sense or logic in the Script itself.

I'm struggling to see how Jane could be Red John ?

In the episode Red Johns friends, Jane is at the CBI with the team while Red john kills someone. 

Need more evidence ?

In the season 2 finale Jane is tied to a chair by 3 people who are going to kill him when Red John appears and shoots all 3 people and then knifes them to death. He then picks Jane's chair up and sings a poem at him, we see them face to face !

He can't shake himself by the hand.

And lastly in the Season 4 finale Jane gets into a car and talks to red john down a phone. Red john responds and hangs the phone up. 



 

My theory is that, Patrick Jane is Red John. All the puzzles are made by him. It's like a bipolar disorder or something. It sounds strange, but fits many scenes that I had watched.

Patrick Jane is Red John

He has a split personality he doesn't know about.

"does anyone know who you are?"

when jane was hallucinating charlotte, she asked him that question. that means he is hiding something about his true identity. his wife and daughter must have figured out he was red john when he mocked him on the tv show, so he killed them and said that it was rj getting revenge. and he used the same plan to kill the other serial killer by making him mock rj. jane even said that making him mock rj was the only way that 'HE' could stop him.

i am not 100% behind that theory as there are some flaws in it, like the shaking hands bit, and when they came face to face when rj saved jane.

i have another theory though. why didnt rj get revenge on jane by killing him instead of his wife and child? that for me says that rj wants jane alive so he could chase him. rj seems to enjoy the thrill of the chase and he knows that jane is smart and he would enjoy the little cat and mouse game that they are playing. so if rj is not jane, then it is someone with a personal connection to him, thats how he could know about that happy memory, he must have been with him.

Why not patrick Jane?
Yes Bruno ruled out the theory but still, can't he change his mind since nothing is written?

Why Patrick Jane?
How else would RJ access a happy memory of Jane?
How else would he know about the seven names Patrick kept in his journal, in his pocket, at all times?
Patrick "said" he locked himself for a week ... "asked" Lisbon not to be disturbed... Couldn't he have gone out during that "week" to plan and execute the kill?
Patrick "is" with Lisbon most of the time... Then again RJ has many people who work for him, who could do most of the dirty work for him...
How many other persons can persuade that many people (probably hypnosis) to such loyalty !
