Start reading this theory with your mind set to RED JOHN IS WALTER MASHBURN.

Red John(AKA Walter) has no female accomplices,he slays women rape them and paint with their blood.

Throughout the past 5 seasons we knew RJ has many male accomplices almost everywhere CBI,FBI,DA and visualize ,he never kept a woman alive except for three and only three Rosalind Harker , Lorelei, Kristina Frey.

He never kept a woman alive for as long as Lorelei or even still alive (Kristina and Rosalind ).

Pay attention to what  Walter is saying at 0:34 in this video:
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPVASLzF1Z8

"My second..nah my third wife was into this .....) he was referring to Kristina Frye as she is the third female that RJ kept alive.

Now lets see what we can match from the clues in last night's episode:

He has a fear of Acrophobia (fear of hights) : Unconfirmed.
He is middle age : Walter is.
He has no living family but many friends he relies on : Walter is .
He is a a excellent whistler : Unconfirmed.
He is a damage and narcissistic individual : Jane couldn't read him and yes hes damaged.
He doesn't deal with conflict and adversity easily : Unconfirmed.
He speaks rather convincingly when lying outright Walter is.

And if you watch Walter scenes he wears red shirts , red Ferrari , red boat.

I am convinced that Walter is RJ but i don't think the Walter character had time in the show to develop for the audience to enjoy and be satisfied when RJ is revealed to be him.

All of the evidence I'm about to bring forward is making some assumptions on whether or not some things told are actually true or not, such as Rosalind Harker's description of Red John, the list itself, Brett Partridge being dead, Patrick's former psychiatrist's psychiatric analysis of Red John.

Also, I'm going to attempt to show why some people CAN'T be Red John according to the evidence provided so far.

I'm more interested in the smaller details rather than the big picture.

Brett Partridge - Can't be him since he's dead.

Brett Stiles - An interesting guy, but I don't think it's him because I believe he's a bit TOO old to be Red John, and I think Rosalind would have said something about it (assuming her testimony is true).
Also, notice that he has people around him a lot of times and has things done FOR him. He's not the type of guy who likes to get his hands dirty like Red John does. This may also take him out as a suspect since Red John allegedly has strong hands ... Tough to do for an older guy who has henchmen doing his dirty work.
And I doubt he's very good with a gun, seeing that Red John is quite a crack shot in the episode where he saves Patrick from demise.

Ray Haffner - A member of visualize and a promising suspect for sure. According to Harker's description, Red John is neither muscular nor soft. However, near the end of episode 2 of season 6, it's shown that Haffner does indeed work out. So he may indeed have strong hands, but that would also make him somewhat muscular. At least noticeable enough for Harker, I'd think.

Reede Smith - A bit on the "softer" side, wouldn't you all agree? Red John didn't seem that big of a guy when saving Patrick. Possibly an accomplice or just wanting to know how much Jane knows since Red John seems to be a hot topic for the FBI and CBI(implied in episode 2 of season 6).

Gale Bertram - Another possible accomplice of Red John (implied in episode 2 of season 6). However, he's too tall and doesn't have enough hair according to Rosalind's description.
I think he's just a red herring. Red John obviously enjoys attention, but not so much attention where it may give himself away. He could have just hired Bertram to keep an eye on things in the CBI. He is a director, not an actual agent. He doesn't get his hands dirty. He just keeps an eye on things.
Remember Rebecca Anderson before she was killed? Another informant of Red John. Red John likes to keep tabs on things, but he may not necessarily want to be that out in the open. He likes to stay in the shadows.

Robert Kirkland - A mysterious guy who works for the Department of Homeland Security. Not too much is known about this guy, which makes him a compelling suspect. But I think there are a few clues which may show that he is not Red John, but an accomplice.
Just before he killed Jason Lennon (a former accomplice of Red John), he asked Lennon if he recognized his face. Lennon said no. I think this implies that Kirkland can't be Red John, because I would assume that Red John and his high self-regard would at least want his followers to know what he looks like. Rebecca Anderson was gleaming with joy when she saw Red John just before he killed her, so that means he does show his face to his followers.
Also, all Red John killings before and after never showed the face of Red John ... I don't think the show would change that for this one killing.

Thomas McAllister
- Probably everyone's last pick ... But my number 1.
There are few small but incriminating clues, in my opinion, which strongly suggest that Thomas McAllister is Red John. He's also another character who's not too well-known about, which makes him a prime suspect, since other characters with more background have more evidence to show that they are not Red John.

1. He pretty much fits the description that Harker gave: Not muscular but not soft, strong hands (he is a sherriff and a country guy), not too tall and not too short.
2. HIS GAIT (this is my personal favorite bit of evidence incriminating McAllister): Go back to the episode "His Red Right Hand" and notice how Red John walks toward Rebecca Anderson. Look at his left arm and how freely and highly it whips when he's walking while his right arm stays fairly stationary. Now look at episode 2 of season 6 near the end when it shows McAllister walking back to his car. Possibly the exact same gait as Red John before he killed Rebecca Anderson.  Red John is so used to the gait that he normally uses as sheriff, that he didn't even think twice to change it up before killing Rebecca.
3. His left hand: Also near the end of episode 2 of season 6, one would notice that McAllister's left hand is a bit strange. He either keeps his ring finger excessively curled out of habit or it's just like that.
Now go back to the scene where Red John is drinking tea while Rosalind Harker calls Patrick (season 4 episode 13, "Red is the New Black") and look at Red John's left hand while holding the teacup. It also looks a bit strange, as if a finger is being held from view and curled away somewhere.
4. He's on the list. Everyone on the list has a reason for being on it, not just because Patrick deduced it, but because the show has something in store for all the characters on the list.
5. He's definitely old enough.
6. He seems to have the least amount of suspicion floating around him, and he apparently has the least amount of power regarding the final 6 suspects, seeing that he is only a sheriff. Having a fairly low-profile job while still having some sense of authority is something that Red John would like.

I would like to just throw my theory out there, it may be completely wrong, but after watching Episode 1 and 2 of season 6, I am beginning to believe that maybe "Red John" is actually an organization. I'd love to get some opinions and feedback on this theory because these last two episodes have been very overbearing i guess you could say.

Using all clues given throughout the show so far, i've in the past narrowed the suspect list down to 2 names - Robert Kirkland and Ray Haffner. I shall try and deduce RJ's identity from these 2, using the new clues given today. Patrick obviously has faith in Dr. Miller's ability, so i'll assume what she said prior to being killed is correct.

1. RJ is said to have a phobia of some sort - neither has an obvious dislike of anything, so nobody stands out here

2. RJ is said to be a narcissist - Narcissism is a trait seen in those who have too much ego, and is apparent when someone's ego has been damaged. We saw how badly Haffner took losing to Jane in "Little Red Book", which suggests a large ego, and damaged pride. Kirkland hasn't demonstrated ego problems, he's very calm and measured, so he's not so much a narcissist, much more likely a sociopath.

3. RJ is middle aged - both of these men are in their 40's, Haffner is (by the show's logic) 46, given he was 21 in 1988, and now it's 2013. Kevin Corrigan (who plays Kirkland) is 44, so the character would be roughly the same age.

4. RJ has many friends around him - Haffner is a member of Visualize, who all share the same goals, and are largely friends to each other, it would give him many people to rely on. He also has FBI and CBI links, giving him a large social circle. Kirkland works for DHS (Homeland Security), so he would also have many colleagues to call on and help him out, but not as many as Haffner, given his more limited role.

5. He is an excellent whistler - rather trivial, i'd assume both men can whistle

6. He doesn't deal well with adversity and conflict. This is where Haffner jumps out at me. He did not handle PJ well at all, he was constantly on edge, he looked seriously uncomfortable, and got shown up badly. Kirkland again, looks far calmer around PJ, even starting conversation with him, and he has also shown far greater cool under pressure, he killed Jason Lennon with ease.

7. He's an excellent liar -  Kirkland scores points here, he's far smoother under pressure than Haffner is, Haffner couldn't even lie convincingly to Lisbon, unless he's tricking everyone.

From these new clues, i give the score 3-1 to Haffner, he's clearly a narcissist, has a large social circle and isn't good under pressure, but the lying part is making me question my decision, though my gut has said for ages that it's Haffner, ever since "The Red Barn."

My guess is that Kirkland (like Jane), is on a personal quest against RJ and his organisation, though i can't think of a reason, maybe something to do with national security. If he was RJ, he wouldn't need to break in and steal PJ's Red John casework.

So by process of elimination, and i'm not 100% sold on this myself, it has to be Ray Haffner. There is too much evidence against him, be it the old evidence, such as the physical description, or the new evidence, as i've explained.

My one hope is that Reed Diamond has the acting chops to pull this off, otherwise TV's greatest modern mystery is going to be a real waste.

Do you agree that the last episode was weak?

I enjoy all RJ episodes very much but this episode couln't get under my skin. Maybe because it told us nothing. Or maybe I am so used to waiting for a RJ episode for 10 weeks that this sequential RJ episodes are weird for me.

I, as many of you, knew that Sophie Miller was the key to learning the happy little memory so it wasn't any news. And the description tells us almost nothing. And I wasn't surprised to see her head, too.

Compared to first episode, I was not satisfied with this one. The first episode was so good that my expectations are high now.

After watching tonight's episode, I have some thoughts I'd like to share with you all. Of course, I do not know for sure who Red John is, but I have two suspects remaining in my mind. I have eliminated all others. First, let's start with Brett Partridge, who is supposedly dead.. In the episode tonight, I did not see sufficient evidence to confirm that. Yes, his "body" was on a stretcher in the background, but there was no "up close" confirmation or a burial scene. I still think the body could have been switched or Partridge took a drug and could wake up some time later, and accomplices could sneak him out of wherever his body was taken. Also, two things I remembered from an early clip of Partridge (season 1 or 2 I believe) He is wearing an "ear phone" which explains how he could talk to Jane and still have two hands free for the "knife" and wiping the blood off. (Of course, any of the suspects could have an earphone, so this is not sufficient evidence to confirm my theory that Partridge could still be alive.)

In this same clip of Partridge, he talks about Red John's "trusty stun gun." I couldn't help but notice how in the episode tonight they mentioned how Lisbon was taken down by a taser. How would Partridge know about Red John's trusty stun gun unless he was him? (Or was a disciple of Red John's.)

I do not know if Partridge's death was real or an elaborate ruse, but I do know this: If Brett Partridge is not Red John, Raymond Haffner is. After examining all evidence and listening to Rosalind Harker's and Sophie Miller's descriptions, he is the only possible suspect remaining in my mind (if Partridge is really dead.)

What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for reading.
